I'm looking for a scope for my 16" midlength, and I need a little help.  All I have experience with is cheap tasco scopes, so I was hoping the brain trust here could help me a bit.

I've been leaning towards the TA01NSN ACOG (because I prefer the crosshairs), but I'm open to more traditional scopes, especially if the price is lower.  I'm looking for something for 100+ yards shooting, nothing close-range, but I also don't want some giant scope sitting on my rifle.

Any suggestions?

Burris Fullfield II 2-7x35mm should be able to get one for around $200.

Try the TA01, the TA01NSN is more expensive and has features you may not use and find undesirable: backup iron sights with front tritium (probably won't use), center lit, amber reticle in low light (you may like the full line, red reticle of the TA01 better).

The TA31DOC and TA31ECOS both have cross hair reticles (they're not the same reticle though), and they have fiber optic tube on top to gather ambient light, the reticles are as bright as red dot sights on their highest settings in sunny days.  Both have a Docter mini red dot sight, the TA31ECOS additionally have a set of backup iron sights.

The Bushnell 3200 Elite fixed 10x40. Less than $200 and a hell of a scope for the money. It is also not too big. Here it is on my RRA Midlength along with some 50 and 100 yd groups. The 100 yd groups opened up a bit. I was not using match ammo and the heat mirage was a killer on the 100 degree day.

Isn't the TA01 calibrated using a 20" barrel?  Won't that make the rounds from my 16" hit somewhere other than where indicated?

The TA01 is setup for a 20” barrel but it will work out to 400yds just fine it is when you hit 500 and out that you will see a difference.  If you really plan on shooting up to 600yds with a 16” 223 then got with a TA31F.
