Which Eotech battery size do you prefer and why?

Also, who has the best buy's on these things?

because my wife buys AAs' buy the truck load. i think every one of my kids toys run on those things, and when your youngest son has about 30 Thomas the tank engine trains and they all run on AAs' it makes it easy to get them

I bought lithium AA's (Energizer L91) for mine. They last 7 times longer and have a 10 year shelf life. Just make sure you get that exact one, as it is 1.5V, some of the others are 3.6V and will fry your electronics. They are lighter than regular AA's and about twice the price (from Sam's Club), but think of not having to change them out 7 times.

I like the  size on my N, plus I bought it cheap!

I bought the N for the size and regret it - the battery life absolutely SUCKS.

I would rather have the big ol' ugly AA model on there instead.  At least that way I could buy Lithium Ions batts and rechargables.

There's hardly any options for N batteries.

Just my 2 cents.

i like the AA.. the batt. are cheaper.... on the other hand having the N makes you only have to carry one type of batt...

AA.  Cheap and plentiful batteries are available.  It looks prettier, too

AA

I don't think there's a convenience store in this country that doesn't have AA batteries in stock, the battery life is much better, and you can buy them in a convenient 24 pack.

Same here. With the $50+ I saved going 511 instead of 512 I can afford to replace those batteries pretty often.

It's only on about 1 hour/month anyway. I don't shoot that often.

Though I do have to say I prefer the 512, I got the 511 due to the deal I got on it.

I bought the one that takes the "N" size battery.

I like the smaller size of the unit. They claim 200 hours for the N batteries, thats long enough for me.

The N battery is common around here, I can find them in a lot of stores. My electronic ear muffs use N batteries too. So I have about 30 on hand anyway.

oh...and to show my preference...just b/c

....552....still working on the paint.  I'm not gonna go w/ an MC painted upper this time.  Thinking FDE or Coyote as it's painted now.

I went with the N 511. Smaller and lighter than the AA. Shorter battery life. But I carrey a back-up set in my MAID grip.

 I went the the 512,
I like the availbilty of the AA Lithiums.

I have both but if i were to buy another, it would be the AA. Just because of the avalability of AA.

I'm curious. They say the N version lasts 200 hours and the AA lasts 600 hours(1,100 with lithium) on setting 12. Somehow i think the claims are a little exagerated. How long do  you think the batteries really last?

I had the 511A65 “N” version. I liked the compact size. And, I never had a set of batteries go completely dead on me. The reticle would blink when the EO was turned on, indicating low batteries, but I never had the EO shut down on me during firing. I was buying Duracell N’s at Lowes for about $2 a pair.

i voted AA because they are everywhere

but i have a 553 on the way and its takes the CR123 batts

i wanted a eotech that uses AA but i paid the price of a new 512 for a NIB 553

AA version because they are AAs. Available and cheap.  I might consider CR123 version if the price were close to the same.
I buy from PK Firearms for good fast service and value.  They are a sponser at the top of the page.

They are as available as Walmart.  Smaller unit, battery last a long damn time.

AA for me.  I like to be able to use lithium batteries and on top of longer life the AA lithiums have better cold and heat resistance too.

IMHO, unless you really, really need that 1" of rail space you should stick with the AA battery models.

N

Size (shorter - more rail space)
Batteries not that hard to find
Think it looks more proportional

Well I have both, the 551 (N-type) and 552 (AA lithium).

I pretty much like the 552 better, but that is because of the battery issue. I like the smaller 551 very much, except if you use it a bunch, then the battery issue does matter.

Damn I need to go to Lowe's and get my next batch of N-type batteries, because I am paying $4.30 for two batteries at my local Walgreens. That was the only place I could find them in this smaller than average City. Now that will be awhile since I have 34 two packs of N-type left.

Damn.

AA for me too.  Cheaper longer lasting, as long as there is room for the longer unit it is worth the extra 20 bucks.  You will make up for the difference in batteries in no time at all.

I would use a AA unit most of the time unless I really wanted it to be compact then I would got with a N Cell.  This is way I like the 553 so much it give me good battery life and is compact.
