Evening Folks Which retical do most of you prefer? The 65MOA with 1 moa center dot retical or the single 1 moa dot retical? Wanting to buy one but can't decide which to get. Do they happen to make one that gives both retical options ? Pros / cons of each. Thanks MC |
| I perfer the 65moa and dot myself. I find it helps me to get on target faster and also helps on moving targets. Some guys say it makes it to busy and perfer the 1moa dot alone. I have been shooting several eotech 551 sights for years on carbines, rimfires and even on a lever rifle and I really like them. They are tough as nails, never shift POI even after taking hard hits and easy to aim with. I am real rough on my stuff and I have yet to tear one up so they are built very well. |

IMHO, you should get the Aimpoint M3 if you want a dot only reticle. To those of us that like the EOTech the 65 MOA ring is one of the best things about it. As was mentioned above it can be used to quickly get on target for close quarters and moving targets. It will make it also easier to find the 1 MOA dot. The best thing to do is to actually try out the different reticles and buy the one that works best for you. |

Thanks for the replies folks. I hadn't thought about the Aimpoint M3 with the dot since I was focused on the ruggedness of the EOTech. It would be nice to try out the 65 MOA retical but only one of my friends is into AR'S and he has a regular scope on his. At times at the range I see shooters with EOTech's but don't like to ask someone I don't know if I can shoot their rifle. I'm not hard on my equipment just carefull and take good care of it. So, how does the Aimpoint compare with the EOTech as far as being rugged / durable. |

I had the EO with standard reticle. With fixed BUIS installed it was simply too busy for my tastes. I switched to a folding BUIS but to me it was not really that big of a difference. Now I could have purchased a riser to achieve a lower 1/3rd co-witness but opted to sell the EO and go with the Aimpoint. I’m much happier with the Aimpoint and the single dot. When making my original EO purchase I had both the dot/ring and dot only version sitting out in front of me. I really liked the single dot version and don’t know why I went with the dot/ring version. Had I went with the single dot only EO I’d probably still have it to this day. One thing the EO has going for it that I liked was the wide FOV. |
| Ok this hasn't gotten any easier. I looked at Aim Point sights and now I want one of each. I'll get it figured out. I appreciate the imput from all of you as you brought up questions I hadn't thought of. Don't like to rush out and buy one and then wish I would have gotten something else. MC |

The AP vs. EO topic has been much debated, but most tend to agree that it is all about personal preference. Having shot both, I prefer the AP with a 2 MOA dot on my primary rig. If I were to run an EO, it would have the 65 MOA ring, simply because the 1 MOA dot could be hard to pick up alone under certain conditions, based upon my experience with a 2 MOA dot. My rig is set up with an absolute co-witness, but both front and rear BUIS's are flip-ups. To me it somewhat negates the parallax-free feature of both sights to have the FSB "in the way", but if a fixed front is absolutely necessary, a lower 1/3 co-witness would conceivably be less intrusive. As others have suggested, there is nothing like trying out the actual product before plunking down some serious coin. If you see someone at the range that is running one of the products that you are considering, it never hurts to politely ask if you can have a look through it. I find that most EBR shooters are more than willing, if not eager, to enjoy discussion and let others check out their gear, so long as the requester is polite, respectful, and practices good range safety. |

Murderman I agree about it being a personal choice. I have a flip up front and rear sight as this "to me" moves them out of the way for my optics and you still have them if your optics go south on you. People who I have seen at the range have let me look through their optics but have not offered to shoot it and I'm just the kind of person who wouldn't ask. Don't want to put someone in an akward position to say "yes" when they would rather not. If offered then that is different. Nice to have so many choices and be able to afford it, not that I'm rich, hell if I was rich I'd buy one of each, keep the one I like and give the others awayher |
I also like my ML2 a bit better sits on my DEFENDER M4 I also have a 551 on my other LMT M4 with 65/1moa Id get just the 1moa dot Eotech is a good sight IM glad to see that others like the Aimpoint as well I thought I was the only one |
| +1 on the 65 minute ring. I get annoyed by dots that are hard to find...but that is probably more of a problem on side arms that have more of a chance of being way off on the angle. The 65 minute ring is easy to find and anything that is far enough away to really need to be seen is inside the ring and you can use just the dot. Plus the ring can be used as a rough range finder since it covers 5'5" at 100 yds, half the ring covers that at 200 yds, etc. |
| Thanks for all the input it has helped to hear what other shooters like and dislike and their reasons why they prefer one optic over another. I like the battery life on the Aimpoint, how water resistant they are ( I don't plan on being 75 feet down under water with my ARhe You folks brought up a question about co-witness in the lower one third of the optic. Is this a problem if you have folding front and rear sight? I wouldn't think it would be since the front sight shouldn't be in the way. From what I've seen here with a non-folding front sight the dot should be just over the top of the front sight. Let me know if I'm right or wrong as I want to do this correctly. Thanks MC |
| I have a folding rear and fixed front. When the BUIS are in position the dot will line up with the sights if they are both zeroed to the same range. In practice, I prefer to lift my head a little when using the EOTech so that the dot is a little above the front post. |
