I've mounted a Mueller 3-10×44 Tac II Scope on my 6.8... Mainly just to learn how to use one. I've never shot with magnification, before. The only range available to me, at preasant, has 100 yd maximum range. I don't have a bore sight. My question is this. Is there a "rule of thumb" preset of elevation & windage I should set before firing my first round? I don't want to hit the guy next to me's target. Or, do I just set it on the rest, put the target in the cross hairs and see where the first one goes?...and adjust from there?

Not really.

Just go in in your backyard, pop your upper off, and set it on a table or something. Then just sight through the barrel at a distant object and set the crosshairs to the same object. That'll get you on paper.

Thanks, that's a good idea. Except, the sight of a scoped AR would probably freak my neighbors out and I'd have a cache Sherrifs cars surrounding my house.

That's a great friggin' idea I never thought of.  That'll save at least a few rounds when I get my scope.  WURD.

I do mine at night out my kitchen window. Looking at the porch light on a neighbores house Works great and im inside out of sight of the neighbores.

Another good idea is to begin sighting in at close range, say 25 yards or so. This won't hold zero for 100 yards, but its easier to first hit paper at 25 yards than trying to hit at 100 yards without having some sighting in previously.

Then once sighted in at 25, it will be much easier to make the adjustments to be dead on at 100. This will save you some ammo.
