What ARMS mount would I need to mount a scope on a flat top upper with the standard FSB (say a 3-9 scope for example)? Or other mounting solutions?

I have used the #22 high rings for this. With a 3-9 scope, at the lowest magnifications, you'll see a slight blur of the FSB, but above 4 or 5x, nothing. be aware that with a scope that has a 1-inch tube, you'd also need a pair of the 1" ring inserts, which pushes the cost up. You could also get an Armalite 1-pc mount, which is available with 1" rings, and is less expensive than the ARMS rings.

ARMS is crap. Get a LaRue SPR mount.

Bullshit. Because some of them have had pieces break off or otherwise have failed? By that logic, the AR15 is itself a piece of shit.

I like ARMS products and they have held up well for me. As a matter of fact I will be buying an #19 soon...

Because every piece of ARMS gear I ever had was sub standard. And came loose.

Back in the day (2003) we dealt with that shit because it was better than the alternative. Now its not top notch kit anymore, so there is no point to it.

Well, I guess you just happened to get items that weren't up to snuff; hey, it happens, and I really don't blame ya for that coloring your opinion, but to say that something is crap because it's "no longer top-notch kit, so there is no point to it" is pretty dumb, IMHO.

Heres the way my mind works in regards to gear. It's either the best, or it ain't shit.

I have over $300 in an ARMS mount that I made the mistake of putting on a .308 rifle. It didn't last 1000 rounds before it became so loose it is now unusable. I even added electrical tape to it to help tighten it up for a while, but it just got looser and looser.

ARMS scope mounts are of marginal quality when put on .223 rifles. On .308 rifles just forget about it. Get a LaRue and you just have to buy the mount once.

ETA: Here is a LaRue SPR mount:

For a 3-9x you will likely have more eye relief than an SPR can cope with so an SPR-E (for extended) will probably be necessary (unless you only shoot from the bench). The -E puts the scope about an inch more forward than the standard SPR.

I was unimpressed with the ARMS mount that I had mounted on one of my rifles for several years.  Finally sold it and purchased something for half the original cost of the ARMS, but having twice as much quality.

They sure look cool, but the design sucks.  Weak, and did not fit particularly well.

As always, YMMV.

I've have a ARMS #35 base and medium rings that has over 2K rounds on it. I take it off and on almost everytime that I go to the range and I don't have a RTZ problem nor is the mount loose....

ETA it's been on two different AR-10s....
