I read the sticky about different types of sights, I'm wondering what would be the best set up for law enforcement. I may be close quarters, or I may be 50-100 yards when shooting, it all depends. I may be entering a house.  Right now on my new build I have a flat top and haven't yet ordered the removable carry handle. I'm waiting on a response to this thread. I was thinking of a flip up rear, standard front and maybe an eotec. But I'm not very familar with this different set ups.

Eotechs are nice and provide quik and easy target acquisition. Im not law enforcement but personally I'm from the keepin it simple school. The less batteries, moving parts, breakable gadgets on my weapon the better. To me there is nothing more rugged, easier to use or reliable then just plain ol' iron sights on a carry handle, especially if its under 100yds.

If you want to shoot a little further out, you might want to get a variable 1-4x. If you are sitting on a wad of cash, US Optics has two models, which they will customize for you:

SN4 and SN4S

In most of the reading I've done, US Optics has gotten favourable reviews. Although there was a problem with the canadian military or something (someone was talking about a dunk test I think).

Get an aimpoint ml3 for your duty gun.  Unless your going to operate as a sniper, you will not need the magnification on a general patrol rifle.  I used to have an eotech on my patrol rifle, but I had the batteries go dead on me during a training session.  I also had the mount come loose once.  With the ml3 you don't have to worry about the battery quiting for at least a few years.  I've had my rifle out and the sight on for several hours a couple of different times while on duty.  It's nice not to have to worry about the battery quiting.
