How exactly does one go about setting up a battlesight zero with a rear BUIS that doesn't have an elevation knob? All the instructions i've found detail the elevations to set the rear sight at. Do I just set up a target and adjust the front sight for elevation and the rear sight for windage, and hope for the best?

The front sight post is what you turn to change the elevation.  The rear sight is what you use to change the windage.  And depending on your Rear BUIS, if you have a BUIS that is the Same Focal Plane, it won't matter which aperature you use.  If you have a Rear BUIS that is more like an A2, then you may want to zero using whatever aperature you are going to be using.

Also, the best zero is the 50 yard zero for your irons and red dot sights.
