Hey, I was wondering if anyone on this forum has used this set up, and how well it performed.

I plan on getting a CompML3 with a 2 MOA dot, I found one for about 360, I plan to use it for targets out to about 100 yards at first, but I would like to know how well the 3X performs incase I move up to longer ranges, thanks in advance, take care.

Looking to change from my current Eotech setup and am interested in this questions also. Bump it up.

I've recently started working with the Aimpoint 3X magnifier and an ML3 with the 2 MOA dot and I think the system has some real potential.  While the magnifier does have some shortcomings, it has an advantage that no other system that I am aware of has.

IMHO, in order to take full advantage of the system you need to use a flip-mount for the magnifier.  (This statement is in no way meant to disparage the manufacturers of fixed mounts for the 3X magnifier.)  Being able to go from a 3X magnification sight to a both eyes open reflex sight in an instant by merely hitting the release lever with your left hand (and not having any eye relief issues involved) has a tremendous value and is this systems greatest attribute.

The 2 MOA dot on the ML3 gives a finer aiming point when using the magnifier than the "donut" on the Trijicon ACOG TA-11  and when the magnifier is flipped to the side you have faster target acquisition at CQB distances than with the Leupold Mark 4 1.5X - 5X MRT set at 1.5X.

Another advantage of the 3X magnifier when using a mount with a throw-lever is that the magnifier can be moved from weapon to weapon (until you can afford to buy multiple Aimpoint magnifiers) without affecting the zero of any of the weapons sights.  I've used the Aimpoint magnifier with a Trijicon Tri-Power and an Eotech with good results.

The system isn't perfect, but it does have a lot going for it.  The magnifier does not offer the greatest field of vision.  It also suffers from (and I forget the technical term) the "fish bowl" effect.   I also wish the magnifier had a little more eye relief or a mount that integrates a little better with the BUIS (Mark LaRue, are you reading this?.)  Here's a few pics of my current set-up.

Personally I don't care for the system, but that is just me.  I had it with the EOTech and the Aimpoint and I liked it better with the EOTech.  If you do get the magnifier, definitely get the Samson Flip mount as Molon stated above.
