Hi,

I just got my first and brand new AR15.
Today I took it to the range to sight it in.

I have a LMT-BUIS and the standard frontsight on my rifle.

First I shoot a IPSC target at 10 meters...I hit it low and right in the C-Zone.

Now I turned the frontsight 4 times and now it shots at the right hights.

But for the side I can´t help. I turned the rearsight from left to right but I could not make it to hit the A-Zone of my IPSC-Target at 10m ... NO its not me

So what can I do to fix this problem ?

Thanks

Try zeroing at 25m first, or use the 50m IBSZ.

@Quib:

Thanks but you are quiet funny....

when I can´t make it to hit an IPSC A-Zone at 10 meters how should I be able to do so at 25 ??? At 10m the hits are about 4-6 inch to the right.

@All:

I checked the FSB....looks stright to me.

Could the problem cause from the fact that I put a Brake on and that the wrenching on could have "curved" the barrel ? ....I don´t belive so...but is it posible ?

Or the wrenching on the barre-nut to tighten my FRHG ?

Thanks for your help

So your completely maxed out on windage?

Funny or not, you really should move your zero distance back out to 25m minimum.

@Quib:

Yeah I turned the rearsight from far left to far right and back again, stepp by stepp with 3 control-shots between. The POI changed by 4-5inch at 10meters. But no way that I could hit the A-zone.

25meter-zero: For fine-tuning the sights ok...but I don´t get it that I may can hit a 12"x6" at 25m but not at 10m ?

I hit about 4-5 inch right at 10m

I guess at 25m I will be of the target....

Do you have a picture of your rifle?

ETA: Never mind, I found your post with pics. Do you still have your original carry handle? If so, I would remove the LMT BUIS, install the CH and attempt to re-zero the rifle. See if your problem still exists.

I’m suspecting your barrel indexing or FSB are off. But, I can’t imagine it being so far off that you can not even get your shots on the target. A problem that serious with your optics or barrel indexing, I would think, would be very obvious!

@Quib:
That is what I am afraid of...that my brand new 62 week backorder rifle has to be shipped in again....

Like I sayed I have quiet good visions but I can´t find a "curve" in the barrel or that the FSB is off.

If the barrel is off-line....can this cause from installing the brake or tighten the barrelnut in a wrench ?

Are there any storrys like: I tightend my barrelnut to much now it shoots off-line ?

Thanks

Yes. If you apply too much torque to the barrel nut it can throw off the barrel indexing. It happens often here.

Again, yes. Like I stated above, this is a very common problem. But, before you send off your rifle to have it looked at, you might want to swap the LMT BUIS with the carry handle, then try to re-zero and see if you get the same results. If you do get the same results, then most likely the barrel indexing is off.

OK....I will hit the range today.

First I will try the carryhandle sights and I will take the brake of...just to make sure that the projectiles have no contact to it.

If it is the barrel-index...will it be fixed after I have turned the nut loos a little ?
Or have I trashed my barrel or what ?

How tight should the barrel-nut be ? Handtight and locked with blue-locktight ?
Or wrenchtight ?

Thanks

What needs to happen is the FF hand guard barrel nut needs to be loosened up. Then when re-torqued the barrel needs to be held in place to prevent it from turning with the barrel nut as torque is applied.

Sorry, I have never installed a DD free-float handguard, so I can not tell you how much torque DD recommends.

ETA: The instructions for installation of your HG’s can be downloaded here Daniel Defense 9.0 Free Float Rail System if your interested in the procedure.

After reviewing the instl instructions, there is the slight chance that your FSB was not re-installed correctly. But again, that should be obvious if the FSB is canted. I have removed and re-installed FSB’s with no effect to windage. But, if the FSB is on crooked and the taper pins are not fully seated, then that could be a problem as well.

See if the CH swap with the LMT BUIS changes anything. If it doesn’t then I think the installation of the DD HG’s should be looked at.
