I have a 16 in Bushmaster A2 and want to mount an optic on it.  Basically I am wondering if the Eotech is right for me.  I need something for 100yds and in, so I think this is the best choice.  However, I need some advice on how to mount it to my fixed carry handel.

I know that I can buy a small rail type mount that puts it right on my carry handel, or a rail that mounts it forward and below the carry handel, closer to the fore grip.

Does anybody have an eotech mounted on an A2, what are your experiences with it.  What is the prefered method of mounting the sight.  Is there problems with it being too high up when mounted on the carry handel.  It would be helpful if someone could post pics looking through the eotech on an A2.

Thanks.

Swap your upper for a flat top.  Added cost after you sell the A2 upper will be less than a gooseneck mount.  I will be REALLY high on top of the handle.  Add a BUIS later.  I honestly think that will make you the happiest in the end.

if you still want to keep your carry handle mount you can buy a bc cam from eotech, it screws in the top of your carry handle and then comes down over the hand guards so yu can cowitness your a2 sights, i believe that a.r.m.s. makes one as well

I really don't want to sell my upper.

The mount you are talking about spentbrasstc is similar to the one I had seen.

I understand that co-witness is where the red dot lines up with the front sight.  But my question on that is do you still have to use the irons (front and rear).  The whole reason I wanted an eotech was to get on target quicker.  Would it be just a quick with a red dot and co-witness, as a red dot without.

On my 6520 I use an arms #39 a2 plus forward mount. It puts my aimpoint comp m out over the hand guards and it cowitnesses with my irons perfect. The dot is on the tip of the fsp. All you need to remember is to open your butler creek caps or just remove them or your not going to see a thing when you bring the rifle up. That should not be an issue with an eotech.

Thanks for the tips.  Is it also possible to just mount the sight on a top foregrip rail so it would be directly in front of the carry handel and over the handguard.

Most anything is possible with your AR.  Have you considered just a fixed 4 power Leupold scope?  I am assuming your gun is not for "tactical", but for sport?  If so, a real rifle scope is worth considering at some point.  EOTech is really cool, but so expensive, if it fits your use then they are great.  I put a fixed 4x Leupold atop my carry handle and hunted with success all year long.

I give you six months till you have sold the A2 and buy a flat top if you actually fork over the cash for the goosneck mount and the EOtech.  You only THINK you want to keep your A2 receiver.  We have all been where you are, myself included.  Since you will no doubt sell the goose neck AND the A2 eventually I suggest buying the gooseneck in the EE used.  You will lose less money that way.

NTM EOtech is a whole new phenomenal sight apparatus.  I mean, holographic, how cool is that!  You look through one and its weird, you can move your head all around and the sight follows you to stay on target, if that makes sense.  It's really designed, i think, for tactical and warfare scenarios, where quick sighting of target means life and death and not enslaving the operator to the weapon's sights is vital.  For sport or other activity, I wouldn't start out with an EOtech or AIMPOINT or ACOG, unless I hit the lottery.  I'd get a scope I could use all around.  Also, the carry handle comes with perfect iron sights, that are hard to imrpove upon in one or two moves.  Get some tritrium for the front post and you're set to kill coyotes.
