I can't even think of how many times this has been asked or how many threads have already been started asking this. Do a search or check out the Optics, Sights, and Mounts Forum if you want to know the answer to your question.

I have.. I have read so much about both of them.. I wanted to see what the guys on this site really thought about them.  But thanks anyway.

Molsen isn't trying to send you to another site, he is redirecting your question to where the answers are, which is simply another portion of this site.  The mods will usually move questions like this into the appropriate forum.

The optics section of this site will end up with hundreds of threads on the Eotech vs Aimpoint question.

The simple answer to what you asked is that its a matter of preference.

target aquisition is faster with an EOTech.  Eotechs are cheaper.

Not spending an extra $100+ on a mount is certainly nice.

There is very much an individual factor involved here related to "speed". Your blanket statement is misleading. If price is the primary, then you are most likely correct on that point. For me I will not give up my M2 period. I have used both extensively. For me, the M2 still wins.

But then you have to deal with the whole EoTEch/rail alignment problems (probably no more an issue though). The first time was enough trouble to keep me away.

I tried fellas, I really did. ALl the SWAT guys and koolaid  guys said to try the EoTEch, I did and did not like it. My AimPoint has never let me down. I'm sticking with the tough bastard.

i had 2 eotechs and switched to aimpoint. I juse love the way it rides in an lt 150 mount. I love i can just leave it on for a year and not worry about it.

Eotech had an issue where their units were canted on some uppers.  That was awhile ago, and it was dealt with, but it took awhile.  There was a snall amount of units that were involved, but that doesn't make anyone any happier if they were one of those people.

I've got both Aimpoint and Eotech, but its an Eotech that sits on my duty and training weapons.

Mine worked great too. Just looked funky if you were paying close attention.
The reticle is what killed it though. I may reconsider if I ever get behind one of their dot models.

Thank You.. I should have put this in the optics part of this site im still kinda new to it all. I just got out of the marines about tw0 years ago and i just got a new ar15 carbine. I wanted something like my M-16 but when i was in the shop I saw  what looked like and M-4 so I went with it.. I am used to not having anything mounted to my rifle. When I was a Marine it was like I had blinders on to all this stuff now that im out I want the best for my rifle but there is so much to choose from. so im on here everyday reading what you guys have to say and looking at your set ups. I love my rifle but i only know what the marines tought me. I know you guys can help me out.. Thank you for all the help.. I really think im going to go with the aimpoint.

1. do a search
2. i prefer eotech hands down faster flash shots with the circle. Also i like having the big window with the eotech and not the tube of the aimpoint. I shot both before i bought mine.

This is my Rifle as of right now. I have done a lil bit a work to it.. but as you can see im just getting started. I chopped the Carry Handle "something I learned how to do on this page.. I have the flip down site comeing soon. I might get the the front flip up site. I dont know yet.  I have a cheap reddot site someone got me from wal-mart but I need a 1/2'' riser for it too work.

I would post where in TN you live on the TN forum (on this site), and see if someone will volunteer to let you try theirs before buying.  Send me an email if you’re near Memphis.

There used to be a day when this would never have to be said. Just because a sponsor here is selling it does not mean it is quality gear designed for hard use. Beware any non-proven optic if you plan on using for defense purposes.

I use Aimpoints, batteries last much longer, and sight picture is less conjested.

I have both and prefer the Eotech primarily because all I have to do is push one button and it is at my preset light level.  My NV compatible Aimpoint needs several clicks to be at the appropriate setting.  At the range they both work well but the 65 MOA ring on the Eotech is pretty much minute-of-badguy's-chest, which IMO is great for up close.  So with this said, my house gun with a weapon light has an Eotech and my outdoors gun has the aimpoint.

Marines is capitalized. If you've earned the title, then wear it with some pride.

Aimpoint, easier to operate the knob with winter gloves on than the buttons.

The batteries last a decade.

Feels much more sturdy than an EoTech does to me.

Can hit 1 MOA with an M1a at 100 yards with a 2moa dot Comp M3.

YMMV

That's because the Army can't figure out the difference between regular nouns and proper nouns. Both my parents were in the Army and they know to capitalize Marine.

yeah I know a guy with aimpont. I was going to see when the next time he was going to the range to let me know. he said its the best. In his words "It's a tank".. thats what made me start looking into it a bit more.
So i know im going with the Aimpoint I have heard nothing bad about it at all..
I may get a copy for right now.. I dont have $500 to put down on the one I want.
the COMPM3 from what I read about them it seems like the best one. now trying to decide about 2-4 MOA is going tobe tough I like to shoot long range. So maybe the 2 MOA is for me.

Beleave it or not you guys are teaching me alot.. Thank you

I got a 2 MOA dot for long range shooting, if this is for a CQC weapon then go with 4 MOA.

I have both and the Aimpoint wins hands down.  Its kind of a blonds vs red heads thing.  Again the blonds and Aimpoints have my votes.

I used the aimpoint in Iraq and I hated it.....the knob was terrible and bent after about 5 months of work..... the big thumbscrew on the mount was consatntly hung up on vehicals ot molle gear....The dot was too big and would just get too bright causing washout and other problems, it was about as good as iron sites....

That being said I am now a civilian and have 1 eotech & two bushnell holosites all are great products and work amazingly well..

I swear by eotechs it I had to go back to the box again I would bring mine with me

edit to add: Mount the eotech farther forward and you will find better field of view and a larger reticle patern for quicker acquisition without increasing size of the aiming dot
