here is some detail pictures of the Insight optic.

This veriosn is not available to civilian since a IR laser build into the optic itself.

Note the Insight desing QD mount.

It's not illegal to have an IR laser, it's just company policy not to sell to non-LEOs or non-military. (it IS illegal to export IR lasers, IIRC)

Just adding fuel to the fire...

It is illegal to sell IR lasrer as per FDA regulation.. As far as I know.

I'm pretty positive that IR lasers themselves are not restricted from public sales, just certain power levels.
