Given that anytime the Kobra is mentioned it seems to be met with stares and the chirping of crickets, hardly anyone discusses Russian optics as alternatives. Ironically, those would seem to be the "combat proven" low-cost alternatives. The AK-47.net forums are full of rave reviews of Kobra sights, as well as problems that have cropped up in use. However there's a lot of talk about the PK-AS and PK-01 sights over there which are even more highly regarded, yet neither hair nor hide of them is seen on this board (that I can tell, anyway). The 30mm PK-01 looks like a good, parallax-free collimator with a 1.5moa dot and the PK-AS-W has a 1moa black dot that works even when the unit is without power (in addition to the 1.5moa red dot). Does anyone have experience with these on an AR platform (cowitnessing, etc)? PK-01 http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/pko1.html PK-AS-W http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/pkasw.html |
I just posted in your last thread or one just like it within the last 48 hours. I would not reccomend any Russian optics to anyone as there are better options. The Kobra is junk IMO. When you start looking at magnified optics that adjust the reticle around the FOV, when your power switch dies from dropping your optic onto soft grass from 2 feet, when recoi kills LEDs making up your reticle, you know you are not dealing with quality.

| That was not my thread and I read your post. Given that there are literally hundreds of positive posts from Kobra users as well as quite a few negative reviews, it's hard to call that a definitive answer but I appreciated you sharing your experience. However, this thread is about the PK-01 and PK-AS-W red dots, which most owners on the AK forums are pleased with and consider them to be of higher quality than the Kobra sights. The PK-01 is a 30mm red dot with automatic brightness control and the PK-AS-W has a black dot which works even if the red dot cuts out. I found one cached post on Google from a person who mounted a PK-01 on his AR and was very happy with it, which given that it would fit standard 30mm mounts, might be a good and inexpensive way to go instead of a SPOT or fakepoint. |

I had a Kobra on my AK for a while, it was OK. I now use a VOMZ 8x56 scope on my FAL. It has held up well and is very bright. Nice clear glass with a nice draganov style reticule. Way better than any chinese made scope at a lower price. I think I paid about $70.00 for it. |
