Hey, I've seen a few of these for sale in the EE like new with the broken locking bars.. Well... It happened to me. It was mounted on my keyhole forged upper fired a few times put away with no probs. I took it out the other day and she fell off! I didn't bump , drop or otherwise hit it. Is this a problem with these units? I like the site as it is on my m4gery identical to my issue weapon used in Iraq. I like 600 meter lever, but this is a NO-GO. Anyone have any info on people maybe making these locking bars as an upgrade? Or info on Maetch to buy a new factory unit? Thanks Bunny |
| I don't think it's possible to "buy as a factory unit". Last I heard, people can't get ahold of them directly, but that's a whooooole other debate there. I've never had a problem with mine. I think people just tighten them too much. Mine has never come loose and I don't even use loktite. If mine broke, I'd just take the screw down to the local screw store and match up the threads with a replacement hex head screw. It would be nice though, if there was a direct source for replacements or something beefier, just in case. |

You probably over-tightened it. Per the instructions, once you get the screw started tighten it down until you can barely move it fore and aft in the slot by hand. Then tighten it an additional 1/4 turn, no more. The screw is easily over-tightened and will strip, break or is fatigued to the point that a good whack causes it to break. Properly installed, they are adequate and stand up quite well. For a replacement, you want a 6-32 thread. Can't remember the correct length off-hand. Wpns Man |

Thanks for the feedback fellas but I don't think that I explained it properly to begin with.. It is not the screw that broke.. It is the locking bar that the screw mounts through that holds the sight to the upper receiver. It split right down the middle. You are probably right about overtightening.. I need to have my elbow re-calibrated ![]() Anyone making Just the locking bar pieces? |
| I also have a Matech with a broken bar and missing screw. I would love to get my hands on the replacement parts so I could use this unit. I had contacted Mongo(?) about getting replacement parts since he had fabricated a replacement "bar" for his and posted pictures in a thread, but he never got back to me. |
