I'm going to be purchasing Acog in a week or so. Since all my uppers are A4 flat tops I think the TA31F will work best for me. What do you like/dislike about this ACOG model. Have you had any problems with them?

Since there are some Acog models specific to barrel length 20" and 16".  I'm going to be using this scope on my 20" stag but I might also try ot on my 16 and 14.5" uppers. Will this scope work fine on different barrel lengths.

Thanks in advance

I absolutely love mine. Its perfect for what I use the rifle for......mid length shots. The optics are clear and even in low light I have not had any problems with the illuminated reticle not being bright enough. I have it mounted on a LaRue quick release mount which has been incredible as well. Holds zero all day, the scope comes off often as I tend to use my irons for shots less than 100 yrds. I'd have to say it hurt a little to come up with the cash to get all these things working in concert but now that its all paid off I regret nothing! Hit it, you will not be dissapointed.

My TA31F was the most expensive optic that I've purchased, but it was (and still is) well worth it.

BobbyK mentioned clarity, and that's the biggest asset IMO, miles ahead of the other more value-oriented optics I've owned or used.

You'll like it, and I don't think that the barrel length issue will be much of a problem as far as ballistics go.  You might find that transferring the ACOG from one upper to another will provide more of a sighting problem than the barrel length - Zeroing on one upper doesn't mean you'll be exactly on target on the next upper.

There is nothing that I dislike about my TA31F, it does what I want it to very well. For a lightweight, fixed power, GP optic, it is tough to beat IMO. I do a lot of my shooting outside during the day, so the chevron gets a little too bright when I'm in direct sunlight, but a piece of electrical tape over the tube takes care of that. Some of the others I shoot with do not have this same problem though.

The TA31F will work fine on any rifle, but it is calibrated for specific ammunition from a specific length barrel so you may need to calculate different hold overs/unders for different rifles. Mine works fine with M855 from my 16" out to 300 yards, then I have to hold under past that.

Just nosey...I am looking to buy one soon too. How much did you pay and were did you buy it. I am also looking into a TA31 RCO-m4. Little more $$ but I like the reticle.

I dislike the TA51 mount so I managed to sell it and replace it with a LaRue mount.  Now I can switch between two hard, repeatable mounts, for ACOG and Aimpoint.

I have a 16" Barrel RRA Entry Tactical-- I'm considering this model Acog (TA31F).  Can you explain to me how the ammunition calibration thing will affext my aiming using this sight.  I really am not sure I understand the concept.  I basically shoot off the shelf ammo-- sometimes I'll shoot surplus or whatever I can get for plinking.

I read a post here on the forum that said the TA11C might be a better match because of the 16" barrel.  I shoot anything from Winchester, to xm193, to Radway Green.  Sometimes its 55 grain- sometimes its 63 grain etc.  Whats the best match?

Thanks !

I have a TA31F and while I like it a lot, I would probably go with the TA31 with the circle over the the chevron if I could do it over again. It probably comes down to what you intend to use it for though.

I feel like the circle is a more organic and natural shape for picking up quickly should you need to use the optic within 15-20 yards... I don't think you really lose anything in precision at the longer distances either. I should have listened to the more experienced users here when this was so frequently debated at the time.

At one time I had the TA31 and TA31F, sold the TA31 and kept the TA31F.  I like the TA31F better than US Optics SN4 and Schimdt & Bender Short Dot, sold the SN4 and in the process of selling the Short Dot

The TA31's donut is surprising accurate, I still like using the tip of the TA31F for longer ranges though.
