| has anyone heard of Bushnell Scopes? are they any good? i am looking at the trophy series. their site can be found at www.bushnell.com |
I have several Bushnell scopes, mostly their less expensive models, and I've been quite happy with all of them. In my opinion in reasonably affordable scopes, Bushnell is the safest bet. They have a good reputation and I don't think they will put their name on absolute junk. From what I've seen some other brands like Tasco have kind of gone downhill over the years. I had a couple of the old "Made in Japan" Tasco scopes years ago that were pretty good. I have a newer Tasco 3-9x40mm "Buck Scope" on a little Savage Mark II .22LR bolt action, and while the rifle shoots nicely accurate groups, the scope is not nearly as sharp as the Bushnells I have and the fit and finish is obviously not nearly as good, even just on the exterior. You can probably find a good deal on a Bushnell from places like MidwayUSA.com, Natchez or CDNN. |

The Elites are made by light optical works in Japan. This is the same plant that makes Weaver Scopes. I am a huge fan of the Weaver Classic Series of scopes for hunting. They are well made and can be had for a reasonable price by www.natchezss.com. I have heard that much of the Burris and Leupold glass is ordered from Japan to their specs. I would put a Bushnell Banner or Legend on a .22 and an Elite 3200 or Weaver on a Remington or Ruger deer rifle. When looking at brand names of scopes, it all matters where it is made. Some Bushnells are made in Korea, the Phillipines and possibly China. I refuse to buy a gun scope in China, a country where the people who make the item cannot own a firearm. What are you putting the scope on? |
+1 and mine's on a .50 BMG single shot, 100+ rounds, no problems I had a problem with an ellite 3200 3x9 by 40 firefly on a .308, happened on the fourth shot on a new scope, a gasket inside came loose and was flippin around, they have excellent customer service on their lifetime warranty, it broke, I sent it off, it came back new... no questions, I never talked to anyone on the phone, never emailed, just followed the instructions that came with the scope, I only paid for shipping to KS.. |
I have a elite model scope on my .270 and a Leupold vxIII on my dpms .308 I can easily see my bullet holes at 250yds. with the leupold but not with the bushnell. same magnification on the big end. just an observation I noticed. |
