Anyone using one of these? Reviews, comments, etc. welcomed.

I did briefly.  It raises the line of sight enough to prevent a normal cheek weld.  It sucked enough for me to go back to iron sights on that upper receiver.  If you really need to use it, get one of those delta cheek pieces that allows a higher cheek weld.

Very good mount for what it does but IMHO the gooseneck is a better way to go.

I am new on my PD tac team. What I am seeing is that when we are shooting or training with our rifles while wearing gas masks, you cannot get a good sight picture, either with iron sights or co-witnessed red dot.

Good comment regarding the cheek pad. Luckily for me (maybe), I have the CCA collapsable stock on my rifle and they are coming out with a new adjustable cheek piece.

We have the same problem when using our Scott M95 gas masks.  Our "fix" is to cant the rifle at 45 degrees to put the sights in front of our eyes.

Yeah we are doing that too. I find for me that between sucking my head down and canting the rifle things can get a little squirrely.

I had a 16A on my A2 and loved it.  The only concern I had was the thumb nut coming loose under recoil.  I switched to a compact ACOG before shooting with the Aimpoint so I don't know if the thumbnut would be an issue or not.

I think the gas mask thing begs for a laser to be mounted.  Even though I've spent lots of money on other stuff, like a TA31 RCO M4, I just can't bring myself to pay for a real laser, like an OTAL or ITAL.

I also realize that tactically, if gas is deployed, that damn laser is going to point right back at you like a beacon in the night.

True enough about gas being deployed, but the APR may be worn in response to other agents that may not be visible. I just got back from WMD training put on by Dept. of Homeland Security, so they got us all tuned up for ll kinds of stuff.

With that being said, I have considered the laser a few times for my rifle. I am just trying to be conservative about adding too much weight to the rifle. A buddy of mine took his AR and got so gadget happy that he it ended up wieghing a ton and wearing him out during training etc.

Did you attend the HOT course in Anniston?
7/20/2006 6:00:32 AM EDT
[#11]
Affirmative, I was in TERT. We went to the hot zone and did Northville. I take it you've been there?
7/20/2006 8:58:55 AM EDT
[#12]
Yes, 02-01 HOT, Incident Command, and another HOT course.  The last HOT was supposed to be TERT, but they overbooked and we didn't get the full class.

I don't know what Northville is, so it looks like we'll have to go back again.

The most impressive thing about the training was their level of organization, and of course the great food.

Northville is a simulation exercise where they put all the training lanes into use. Basically they split the class into teams and the teams rotate through decon, triage, monitoring, etc.

Wow, the food! I swear they were trying to add 10 lbs to everyone! THe 2.00 beers were nice too.

Based on your previous trips, TERT may be a bit basic for you. But it was good. I'd go back for any of it.

It sounds like they just added the code name Northville to the program, but it seems like exactly the same thing.  I'm glad, actually.   Every time my lieutenant hears about something new, he wants to send us out again.  I enjoyed being there the first time, but after the third time, I think I've had enough for a while.

Since I first went there in 2002, they finished the fence around the main compound, and they lock that puppy down at night.  It seems a little bit like a custody facility.

Did they recommend taking the bomb class in New Mexico?  We go in September.  It's a lot of classroom, but one day is blowing stuff up, and then recovering and reconstructing the bomb.

Yeah, they said it wasn't as nice as being there in Anniston, but that it was a good school to go to. We are looking at sending some people out there too.
