I need some help. I searched everywhere and couldn't find what I was looking for. Where do I set my removable carry handle elevation at to get a proper zero? I'm used to going 6/3-2, but this carry handle has a "Z" (which I presume means "zero") at 6/3+2. When I zeroed it at 6/3-2, I ended up bottoming out a tall front sight post. Was I supposed to zero it using the "Z" as the elevation? I don't ever recall noticing a "Z" on any previous removable carry handles I've had. Thanks in advance for the help. |

Does this help? Copied from Army TM/FM3-22.9 for the M16A2/ M16A3/ M16A4 and the M4 Series all online. |

The instructions QUIB posted are the military way. Consider using the Improved Battlesight Zero instead. It provides a flatter zero for 0-250yds while still keeping the 3-600 marks calibrated. Remember that the DCH has "half clicks" so you should use 6/3-4, not 6/3-2. If you're bottoming out a "tall" post you might have an "F" FSB. The "F" FSB is designed to use the standard height post and the "tall" post is designed to give "F" height with a "non-F" FSB. A "tall" post with an "F" FSB would be .040" taller than designed. |

It's a midlength. I don't see any "F" on the front sight base, so I don't think it's one of those, and I do have a tall front sight post in it. I tried it at first with a regular front sight post, but when that bottomed out and couldn't go any further (with the rifle still not zeroed), USMC03 gave me a tal front sight post to try. I got it zeroed, but the tall post is also bottomed out now. I was curious because of all my rifles, I've never had a front sight post bottomed out and I've never had a carry handle with that "Z" on it. I'll try both methods above (TM BZO and the improved BZO) and see if either work out better. |
By "bottomed out" I assume you mean all the way down? If the standard post was all the way down, why would you try a taller post? |
Yeah, I mean all the way down. I tried a taller post because the original wouldn't go down anymore, but I still needed to get the elevation. |

A taller post is the same as turning the standard post up off the bottom. Doing so would lower the point of impact. If you bottomed out the post and needed more elevation you'd want a shorter post, not taller. If you turned the post up until it was barely in the FSB and it still shot high, then a taller post would help. |
