..the TA01NSN SF model, which comes standard with the mount (which IMO is a better value than the standard TA01). Is it really worth it? I was reading somewhere that the backup sight post is too far to the right on some of them..

Welcome to the boards.

As to the backup sights on the NSN, no they are not worth it.  However, there are places that make a mount that replaces the rear sight with a small dot sight such as the Dr Optic and these are much more usable.  Trijicon even makes a version of the TA31 like this.

Thanks.
I was thinking of the J-Point actually, but I'm sure the Doctor is a lot better.

Either one works and I think there's a third option as well.  I just mentioned the Dr because trijicon is using it on the TA31-DOC.

ETA:  www.gandrtactical.com/trijicon.htm shows the TA31DOC and the TA01 with a JPoint

The TA01NSN was a good idea when SOCOM adopted it as part of the M4 SOPMOD package. Since then there have been better developments and the new standard is the TA31 model. I think its light years ahead of the NSN model. I had a NSN model on my M4 in Afghanistan in 2002 but if I had a choice it would be a  TA31.

MTRancher,
When you had the TA01NSN Model on your M4 in Afganistan.....how were these marked ?...and where ?
Were the Military purchased NSN models marked in the same location and information on the scope? (IE: Cast/raised letters/numbers on top/left-side/or ?....and what information ?).
Photo(s) would help out a lot.

Last, did they have the same standard open-sights on top as the TA01NSN Model they are selling now from TRIJICON ?

They were exactly the same, as far as I remember.
