Does having the scope mounted on the carrying handle change things at different distances?  For example if your shooting dead on at 100 yrds is having the scope on the carrying handle going to cause the bullet to be low or high at say 35 yrds more so then if it wasnt elevated by the carrying handle?

Yes.  Holdover is pronounced on a carry handle mounted scope.  I personally would avoid that setup.

Thanks Markm...  I bought my rifle from a sherrif deputy buddy of mine and it came with a cheap NC Star scope with a quick release mounted to the carry handle.  I'm a AR rookie to say the least so now I have to think about whats happening with this set up and figure out what I want to do.  I liked the fact I could use the iron sights with a scope but now I'm not sure?

If you're a master holdover estimater you can do it.  You also have the issue of a good cheekweld.  It's hard to get with the scope mounted that high.

So if I have a removable carry handle, then the better choice is to remove it and get a BUIS with the optic mounted on the top rail?
