Want to mount an MK4 3.5X10 X40 30mm tube scope on an 20" A4. What height rings do I need?Medium, medium-high, or high.? What mount do you recommend. Thanks in advance.

You need to get the center of the scope 1.4 to 1.6 inches above the rail.  There are a few companies that make rings that high, or you could use 1" rings on a 0.5" riser.

Eye relief will be a problem.  You need to move the scope farther forward than is possible mounting some rings directly on the receiver.

For a nice scope like that, take a look at the Larue EER mount, or maybe an extended rail (e.g. ARMS#38SE) and some good 1" high rings.  Neither of these options is cheap.

I used the Larue LT-104 standard length mount, as recommended to me by Mark Larue. The Leupold has a very generous eye relief to start with, so I've had no issues with this setup. Then again I don't shoot with my nose to the charging handle, so your mileage might vary. The Larue is a very solid mount and the ability to changes scope quickly was the main reason why I decided on the Larue.

Are you needing BUIS on this rifle?

If not, an extended rail adapter such as the GG&G GS-1 model will allow you great flexibilty in positioning your scope where the eye relief requires it, and lets you place your rings optimally.  Mounts like the RRA scope mount with fixed ring locations sometimes just will not fit certain scopes.  A rail adapter will raise the ring mounting plane by about 1/2 inch, allowing use of shorter rings, such as the Leupold PRW or QRW "high" size.  HTH.

Leupold 2x7-33 in Leupold PRW "high" rings on GG&G GS-1 rail adapter, and yes I shoot "nose to CH".
