Thanks for the thread. I have been trying to decide whether to mount the optic to the carry handle and use the standard sights as BUIS or to remove the carry handle and go with a flip up BUIS. It seems that most of the examples here are flat tops or have removed the handles. If my majority use is at the range and plinking any reason o keep the handle?
It depends on which optic you plan to mount on the handle. Dot style sights for closer in are common on carry handles. The closer the optic is to the barrel the more elevation adjustment you will have.

Yes, that would be the best way to mount it on an A2. ETA: Great thread!!! |

Anyone running a Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5 MR/T on an 11.5 or 10.5 upper?
I'm more interested in the co-witness information than pics of how it would look. For co-witness purposes all BUISs are the same height, so co-witness depends on the optic and the mount.
So an EOTech using the built-in mount will absolute co-witness? Then an EOTech on any mount like the LaRue or RRA would be lower 1/3 co-witness? Aimpoint in ARMS 22M68 w/o spacer is absolute? With spacer, straight or cantilever is lower 1/3? GG&G Cantilever is which? This seems to be the mount cloned by the one included with the SPOT and jackyiscxd's clones. |
I cant comment on the EOTech because I dont have one. I do however have the aimpoint and ARMS 22M68 mount and spacer. Aimpoint in 22M68 mount with the spacer = lower 1/3 cowitness. Aimpoint in 22M68 mount with out spacer = no cowitness. I just tried it out, if you dont use the riser (spacer) while mounting on a flattop with the standard "F" front sight block and a Troy BUIS the Aimpoint dot will be too far down on the FSB...no cowitness. Now if you use the ARMS sleeve (another M1913 rail that mounts on the flattop to give you a slightly higher mounting point) I *think* you can just use the 22M68 mount w/o spacer and you will have a cowitness. Let me know if that makes any sense. |

do you know naybody who actually HAS that mount for the ACOG/Dr? Grant has it listed but sold out. |
No idea I had this one circa 2001 |
Makes perfect sense. If the rail is higher, like the ARMS#38 sleeve or SIR rail or RAS II hump, then you don't need the spacer. If the rail is lower, you do. I think I saw a mount, maybe jackyiscxd's clone, that came with a thinner spacer too. Maybe it would absolute co-witness with that. |

Snaps, JP Rifles makes that mount. If I remember correctly, it is called the "NSN Mount". |

As suggested by QUIB... Here are pics of my new Hitec Red dot, cut and pasted from my original posting.
As it turns out - DC Engineering (The manufacturer of the mount) have their offices about 2 miles from my house. I spoke to the sales engineer and he was very knowegable and willing to discuss any questions I had. The Scope and mount come with a lifetime warranty. $245 (including mount). As recieved, the configuration is: Hitech Red dot w/ military issue mount. Integrated quick release, guaranteed 1/2 MOA at 100 yards re-zero. So far it seems like a pretty sweet setup. Its definately solid. Installation was very straight forward. This mount can be used with either a flat top or an A2 style upper. For my application, the A2 upper, it was installed in about 2 minutes. The system uses a Under handle block that attaches to the upper mount and secures with two quick release handles. The block uses a standard 1 bolt through the handle configuration, and the upper section simply slides on rails. I'll post some pics later showing this setup. Heres the web-site for the dot ---> www.rifletech.com/reddot1.htm So here is the goodness... Whats in the box with the scope: http://webpages.charter.net/escher2/dot-1.jpg The scope itsself as recieved: http://webpages.charter.net/escher2/dot-2.jpg http://webpages.charter.net/escher2/dot-3.jpg Here is the scope mounted: http://webpages.charter.net/escher2/dot-4.jpg And a close up. The silver lever actually clicks into the upper, positioning it fore/aft, before you tighten the quick release handles: http://webpages.charter.net/escher2/dot-5.jpg View through the dot ( A little dim due to lighting). In this pic you can see the rails that the upper rides on: http://webpages.charter.net/escher2/dot-6.jpg |

Will I be able to use a Aimpoint M2
with a AR 47 .Would the higher caliber have any adverse effects on the Aimpoint Thanks |
I think the Army puts them on vehicle-mounted .50s so the 7.62.39? wouldn't faze it a bit. |
i had my m2 on my .50 beowulf for a little while and it worked great with no ill effects |
Thank you Mike_L & eklikwhoa
I just pickied up my M2 Aimpoint and I am waiting for the Laure mount and a Troy BUIS from Dennys |

A brief hijack if I may... What's the recoil like with that stock? Methinks it's got to be unpleasant. |

GREAT THREAD!!
OK a question...I'm interested in setting up a NV scope co-witnessed with an E0Tech or an Aimpoint. They will be set up on a standard A2 dissapator upper. Any suggestions/pics? |
Holy Crap! I've found my new favorite gun on the planet! Just love my 870s. |
justbill I usually only shoot in body armor so I must admit not noticing much recoil with the shotgun. However, I have shot it w/o and don't recall it being a big deal
mtnpatriot My advise is dont -- I've used NOD's setup behind an Aimpoint and EoTech -- it is not the right solution - and having used a EoTech on a carry handle - I can suggest that is not the way to go either -- and you will not be able to get an inline sight picture on the forward handguard with an Eotech and a PVS-14 piggybacked. In my experience I would suggest your idea is mutually exclusive -- if you want night fighting ability DO NOT use a nigth site in conjunction with a red-dot -- head mount it and use a PEQ-2B or equivalent. Nam_Ghost - I'm a dirty contractor now |

KevinB,
Thanks for the idea...I'll take a look that way now instead. mtnpatriot |

The BUIS and mount appear to be GG&G. |

You might get a quicker response if you ask your question in the optics forum and not here. In the optics forum it'll get more views. |

you say that now ...but wait till you try a decent optic...those will never be the same. eotech 551, Larue riser, Lmt buis Kac sr-15, sr 25 riser with built in 300m buis, leupold scope and badger rings |

sweet post
Just thought of this section to see what kind of scope I wanted and found this thread.... |
Wow, I'm finding myself stuck on this topic. Great job on this Quib and all who have contributed pics!he
Thanks! I’m glad there are guys out there getting something from this thread. This was my second attempt at getting this thread rolling, the first time it petered out after a page or two, but I always knew that this type of info was sorely needed. Thanks to all who have so generously posted their pics! |
Does the Larue tactical mount allow the TA31 to sit higher allowing the #40 to fit under or will one fit under my TA31F using the factory mounts? |
QUIB,
Thanks for reposting your pics that started this thread. I'm sure they'll help other newcomers as much as they did me. |
I have a question regarding buying the eotech with either gg&g accucam or larue mount. What is the purpose of having the quick detach mounts other than being able to quicky attach and detach? Do they help keep the zero on an eotech where it might otherwise lose the zero if removed without the mount?
