can you guys tell me a bit about them?  i know they are old but i found a used one in great shape at a pretty damned good price locally, i just want to know what they should be bought for and if they work very well

Check Ebay for going prices on Aimpoint 1000's, I see them there often.

They worked great in 1990, but are nowhere near as bright and rugged as the current models.  The 1000 series required a polarizer for outdoor work as the dot was so dim (the 3000 and 5000 were the same way).  The introduction of the XD models changed all that.  The older ones are best used for target shooting on an indoor range.

thank you for the replies, i think htat i may stay away from this and put my money into a new  aimpoint or eotech
