Well, back to the drawing board. Got to try out an aimpoint/magnifier combo at a gun store. Nice, but it didnt suit me; but I also got to try an SN-4. Gads but its wonderful! I'm trying to get a setup that would allow me to use 1x and transition to 4x or higher for learning the carbine. My questions are this:

1. The one I tried didn't have a lit reticle. I assume this allows you to see better in low-light enviroments. Can someone tell me how this works for the SN-4? I was unable to find mention on the companies website.

2. How does an ACOG shape up against the SN-4? I was originally against getting a fixed magnification, but have read more and more about BAC. Anyone have experience?

3. Last, does anyone have experience with the SN-4? Tell me!

The illumination isnowhere near bright enought to compare to the Aimpoint.  Battery life is abysmal.  Company says it will run less than 12 hours at full power.

BAC is no substitute for a variable powered optic but the SN4 weighs over twice what the ACOG weighs (TA31) almost 3X as much and its twice as large at least.  The US Optics has wonderful glass but its illumination system and weight/bulk make it compare negativly in those aspects.

3. Last, does anyone have experience with the SN-4? Tell me!

I own (and broke) my SN-4. The reticle does NOT illuminate bright enough to be seen in full sun. I would tell you that you are better off getting a Trijicon ACCUPOINT and a LT SPR-EER mount or saving up for a S&B Short Dot (as it is the best).

I used to have a SN-4.  The illuminated reticle was useless in full daylight, but more than enough to help out in low-light situations (probably its intended use).  US Optics makes awesome scopes with great clarity, but I sold mine.  In my opinion they are too heavy and bulky to mount on an AR-15 platform.  Now I only use Trijicon and EOTech optics on my carbines.
