I have a TR21 and really liked it, so I thought I would try a TR20 on my hunting rifle.  When I was sighting it in, the difference between the 3x and 9x setting was about 18" at 100 yards.  Looking through the scope with my bore sighter installed, I could see the reticle moving up and down approx 1-1.5 whatever the measurement is on the bore sighter.

I e-mailed Trijicon and received a call the next day.  They suggested I sight the rifle in at the middle (6x) to see if that would cure the problem.  Seems to me that even if I sight it in at that power, the 3x and 9x will still be 18" apart, with the 6x hitting where I aim...and thus having the 3x and 9x settings at plus/minus half (like 9") of my intended point of impact...and this is only at 100 yards!

Has anyone else ever had this problem?  I'm guessing the internals are broken as I can't imagine this is the way this optic is supposed to work?  Trijicon said that it is not uncommon to have some difference between the power settings, but admitted that 18" seemed extreme.  Gee, do ya think?!  I probably wouldn't be too worried if my impact shifted as much as 1.8" at 100 yards as that could be my own fault given my ability to see the target...but 18"?!

So have you sighted it in at the middle to see what the actual spread is??

That hastn't been my experience.

I have a TR20 and a pair of TR21Rs, and all of them allow you to zoom in and out without any perceived shift in point of aim.  I started out using the TR20 at 9x, then shifted to 6x instead, and did not need to rezero.

I got a call back from Trijicon.  They said that one of their engineers thought the spread was much too far to be in spec and he wanted to look at it.  I got a RA# and will be sending it in.

sounds like a problem.

That's one thing I like about my new MR/T 3-9 M3 TMR, absolutely no shift of impact at any power setting.

On what sort of rifle are you guys using TR-20s?

I was thinking about one for an upcoming medium-range project for some more magnifcation than my TA31.

So....

Anyone else using a TR-20R right now?

I own and shoot a TR20 for the past two years.  It sits atop my Browning A-Bolt 270 and has taken two bucks.  I praise the BAC feature and swear by it.

The tip of my triangle is sighted dead nuts at 100 yards.  Anything closer and the triangle simply goes to center mass.  At 200 yards the triangle sits atop the target and it's all good.

The Accupoint is not a precision optic.  It's a kickass 10-200 yard speed demon and you should use it as such.  Good luck with the fix.

Trijicon has top notch service and they'll treat you right.

Nope.  Replaced it with a TR21R for IPSC matches,  I love being able to dial it down to essentially 1x for close work, then out to 4x for 200-300 yard targets.  Or something in between when I need speed, but may need to confirm a hit.

Works every time.

For me, the minimum of 3x was too much for close-in stuff.  YMMV.

Thanks.  So I guess despite the 9x magnification it's not so good for long distances due to the large reticle?  Maybe they'd be better (in 3-9x) with something like the "line" reticle but illuminated with fiber optic in daylight:

The triangle dimensions change with magnification....so you're correct, sort of.

Without the BDC feature of the TA01 or TA31, the TR21&20 are to be used for fast target acquisition, not long range precision.  The 3X9 scope is fantastic for what it's designed for, and limited to what you're trying to accomplish.  The triangle represents a different MOA at 9X.

Personally, I've never shot a deer with my Accupoint using any magnification over 3X.  I've used the 9X before though, in scoping terrain & identifying objects where my eyes can't give me the detail I need.

When shooting 200 yards, like I said earlier, you can utilize some basic hold over and range estimation techniques, but that's about it.

It has to do with being a 2nd focal plane reticle. A 2nd focal plane reticle moves front to back when magnification is changed, whereas a 1st focal plane reticle is always fixed front to back. Because a 2nd focal plane reticle moves front to back when magnification is changed there is a higher chance of it changing zero when adjusted.

However, 18" sounds much too extreme. I would certianly think it could do better than that. I imagine yours must be defective in some way. I'm sure Trijicon will take care of it for you.

This is interesting.... A month ago, I bought a TR20R for my Deer rifle (700 DM) and sighted it in at 100 @ 9x... Top of the triangle on "X".  I didn't shoot it at other ranges or magnifications, didn't think it was necessary.

Guess I'll have to take it back out before the snow really flies....... Better sooner than later.....

ETA: This reticle is the absolute best I have owned for hunting purposes here in MI.. I am in the market for a TR21R for my Remmy 600 my Father hunts with ....

I have 3 accupoints.  A 3-9 on my 30-06 Tikka, a1.25-4 on my .308 Tikka carbine and a 1.25-4

on my AR midlength.  I have not noticed a change in point of impact when I change power

settings. In fact last weekend I killed a 5 point buck at 200 paces on 3X and the rifle was sighted

in at 9X.  I hit him exactly where I aimed.

I have a TR-20 on my midlength recce-rifle. I love it. 3x with BAC is like an acog, and then all I have to do is give it a twist to really get out there.

That's the application I had envisioned.  How do you handle bullet drop?  How far out have you shot it?

I have only shot it as far as 100 yds. I need to get to a longer range....
