At two hundred yards you will need magnification so I would stay away from Red dots like aimpoint Any Leupold you pick as long it is not over 6 or 8 magnification will do . You can buy a nice one for under $500. ALSO check out IOR VALDADA scopes they make some nice ones. One question I would like to ask .What kind of barrel is it 20" or 16 " . The reason I ask is you do not have to limit your self at 200 yards for precision with a AR. They are very accurate at a greater distance then that. |

20in. WOA CMP match barrel 1:7 twist. I had a feeling it would be pretty accurate past 200 yards but I've first got to find a range nearby that provides a longer distance than 200 hehe. How far can I expect really good accuracy?
Um I don't know to many scope brands...did you name the brand for scope you just mentioned...sorry probably a dumb question but i honestly don't know. |
click here for the super sniper im sure your rifle is as good as you shoot or even better. |

Thanks for the link. That scope looks pretty nice...and for 300, sounds good to me. You say you like that scope, how does it compare to others you have used? Thanks Oh and to Scoper yes r4nger does stand for Army Rangers. I've always admired and had an interest in the Army Rangers..Delta Force, Seals and other such spec op groups. I'm not gonna get a cheapo scope just because I've been bitten by the AR bug and theres only one cure...more ARs so I'm sure I will use the scope on other guns when I get a Trijicon. |
get the 10x42m model, its side focus and in my opinion woth the 100 more. the majority of the time i have seen them in the equipment exchange they have re-sold for almost as much as they were bought for so theres re-sale value without much lost if you ever decide to upgrade. but my opinion is that if you want and plan on getting one of the higher end scopes dont buy nothing and just shoot irons till you have enough pennies saved up. i have used plenty others and though it isnt a nightforce or an acog its worth every penny and better than the majority of other name brand scopes in its price range and higher. but cost aside i would get a nightforce! but then again you could get three of the "m" model ss for one nf. |

Its a excellent scope for the money the lens is clear it holds it zero .I have mine zeroed at 200 yards when I shoot a 500 and click it back down to 200 again it always goes back to zero There are a lot of scopes I have had trouble with this is not one of them. Compareing it is kinda of hard because on some rifles I have scopes I have paid upto $1500 but for the money I would be hard pressed to find a better scope |

Sometimes on a scope the target and the cross hairs are not on the same plane that is called parallax. That is where the side mounted knob comes in because you do not have to ajust your position or take your eyes off the target at all. Its nice for tactical sniper shooting. |

In the $300 to $400, I'd go with a Weaver Grand Slam. I was in the same boat a couple of years ago, and the folks at SWFA recommended that over Leupy or anything else. I got the 6x20x40, and have been very pleased with it. Mine has the varmint reticle (very thin), but it's available in standard type reticles as well. They make other magnification ranges in that scope line, but they're not any cheaper, really...so I just got the most x I could lol. I shoot paper with this rifle at 100 and 200 yards exclusively, at least for now, and I use it at 20x. The glass is clear and bright, even at 20x, and I should think this scope would be ideal for varmint work should I ever get the chance. The scope goes for about $325 or so, depending on where you shop, and that leaves enough for some decent rings/mount, to stay within your budget. Of course, if you could just come up with $2000 more dollars, you could get a Schmidt and Bender lol. (added for the benefit of all the folks who are gonna suggest it , even though his budget is WAY under the price of one of those).

most likely you will have to mount it forward of the upper reciever some to get good eye relief. i would either get a forward canted scope mount, i.e. larue spr or the rra/armalite mount or you could just get some medium rings and use a rail extender like the arms #36-#36 or the gg&g rails. |
look at the armalite/rra mount or a set of std. med rings on a rail extender. personally i would go with the larue for two reasons. 1. its solid and offers quick release 2. if you ever decide to upgrade you have a great mount already |
