My buddy was just deployed to the Sandbox. During his last leave home, he told me about some of the new training and gear he was into. He uses his 551, which he loves; but he said that others in his unit used the 552, and that the reticle was different. When I asked him to be more specific, he said that the 552's dot was 3-4 MOA, as opposed to the 1 MOA dot on his 551. Is this possible. While I don't doubt that he perceives a difference, I seem to remember other factors which can affect how the shooter sees the reticle. I've looked through both models at funshows and the like, and I can't tell the difference. Anyone out there have any ideas? |

He was referring to the 552, or as he called it the "double A model". An EOTech 512 we bought for my bro-in-law arrived today, and after he mounted it I played with it a little. At first the reticle dot did seem larger--until I lowered the brightness. The living room was dark, so the reticle did seem too big at the start-up setting; but a few punches of the down button made it much clearer. That got me wondering whether or not this was what he saw. After all, the only EOTech he has used is his personal 551. He loves the thing! He scored a DM spot a while back and Uncle Sugar issued him an ACOG and an Aimpoint, but he still rolls with the EOTech--but he did sight in the other optics, keeping them for backup. That's how I know he didn't mean the M2--but that's a good point, mfingar. |
I thought that the EOMag (or whatever it's gonna be called) was a single unit and only available as such, so there would be no point in releasing magnifier-friendly reticules in the standard units? Unless they are planning on lots of use with Aimpoint 3x mags. I may be remembering wrong though. --Josh |
