My setup: RRA M4 LEO/GOVT Tact Entry w/ RRA 6 Position Stock, Chrome Lined Barrel, Surefire M73, Dieter CQD, Magpul Improved Trigger Guard, PRI Gastbuser, Vortex FH, EOtech 511, ARMS#40, Wolff Extra Power Extractor Spring, Eagle 3 point tac sling w/ HK Hooks, GG&G Rear Sling Thing, and 8 awesome H&K 556 GENII Mags, etc.........

Ok, here goes.........I removed the RRA tactical riser and bought and EOtech 511 and an ARMS#40. I mounted both directly onto the upper. I was able to co-witness and shoot perfectly. I had this setup for about a year. Time for a change............

I recently took the rifle completely apart, to do some cleaning and to install some upgraded items/parts. I now have some questions on the re-mounting of the EOtech and the ARMS#40.

I used to have my EOtech mounted as far as forward as possible (while still fully mounted on the upper's pict. rail), where it was basically sitting up against the delta ring and the stock M4 handguards. The EOtech could not be mounted farther forward because of the height of the stock M4 handguards.

I recently changed out my stock M4 handguards for a Surefire M73 setup. I love it. I now have a ton of room, since the M73 sits alot lower than the stock M4 handguards.

Questions:
1) How close/far away from the rear of the upper does everyone have their EOtech mounted? Does the distance away from my eyes/face really matter or can I position the EOtech where I personally like it at?

2) How much of the EOtech's 'mounting base' needs to be fully mounted, to be solid and accurate? Like should the entire base be entirely on a rail, or can I have some of the sight hanging off?

3) I have my ARMS#40 mounted in the rear-most portion on the upper. It is mounted so the rear base sits flush with the rear of the upper. Once again, does the distance from my eyes/face matter or does it also come down to personal preference?

THANKS A TON!

Questions:
1) How close/far away from the rear of the upper does everyone have their EOtech mounted? Does the distance away from my eyes/face really matter or can I position the EOtech where I personally like it at?It's basically a user preference kind of thing.  A lot of us like to mount our EOTechs over the barrel nut for better weapon balance.  Also the farther the EOTech is from your eye the faster it is to aquire.  Again you need to play around with it and see what location works best for you.  I prefer to mount my 552 to the last rail address on the upper receiver and the front part is basically sitting on the forearm.

2) How much of the EOtech's 'mounting base' needs to be fully mounted, to be solid and accurate? Like should the entire base be entirely on a rail, or can I have some of the sight hanging off?  The only part that really needs to be on the rail is just the clamp that the cross bar connects to.  It doesn't matter if the rest of the sight sits off the base.  You can see this on the La Rue risers.

3) I have my ARMS#40 mounted in the rear-most portion on the upper. It is mounted so the rear base sits flush with the rear of the upper. Once again, does the distance from my eyes/face matter or does it also come down to personal preference? Sounds like you have the ARMS 40 mounted properly.  I would keep it right there so it functions like a standard AR rear sight if you use the nose to charging handle cheekweld when shooting with irons.

THANKS A TON!

Here's a pic of my carbine so you can see how I mounted my 552.

Some people mount their eotechs to their handguards/free-floats. I don't think this is an option for the Surefire HG's because they are slightly lower than FF, causing the eotech to be too low on the front sight. Some claim that the further forward you mount the sight, the more rapid your sight acquisition, but it may decrease your accuracy.  Really, it's just personal preference, and which way you can shoot best.

ohhh... and you do want your BUIS to be as far back on the reciever as possible, IMO.

Here is where I found it best.
