Wow, I really like this! I used it yesterday in the FDCC match (which was a lot of fun!). The first course I ran with the magnifier where we had to shoot two different IDPA type targets with two to the body one to the head and 3 small steel targets two times each all at about 25 + yards. The second course I flipped the mount out of the way and just used the Aimpoint to shoot 2 shots each on three IDPA type targets at about 10 yards, reload and do it again, then advance 5 yards and do the same thing with pistol.

This was my first time using this set up to shoot with, and while I will tell you for certain, I still like my ACOG best, this makes me like my Aimpoint A LOT more. And the mount is probably the biggest reason I like it so much. If you are getting a Aimpoint magnifier, Im telling you, this is the mount to get. With its throw lever, it does what all the other mounts can do to come on and off easy enough. But none of the other mounts will flip 100% out of your line of sight with the touch of a button, or come back as quick as a flip of a hinge.

I have the right handed flip model. This keeps the optic clear of both my eyes when flipped out of the way. It also keeps it out of the way of my charging handle in case I need to access it in a hurry (malfuntion clearance). The biggest question I and everyone else asked was if ejecting rounds will strike the magnifier. Not that I noticed. We shot about 300 rounds through the gun yesterday, about half with the mount flipped to the side. And I could not notice a single mark of any kind on the rubber armor of the magnifier.

Which brings me to another point. I imagine that even if the ejecting brass did strike the optic when flipped, all it would hit was the rubber armor. On top of that, the entire magnifier is still coated with the rubber armor because you dont have to cut any of it off to use the mount. The magnifies has 4 screw holes in the base that the Samson flip mount uses to secure the two together. There is no 30mm ring used, so you dont have to cut a portion of the armor off the magnifier to mount the optic in the mount. To my knowledge, you have to cut a portion of the plastic off the magnifier to use it on every other mount currently available for it. Including Aimpoints own twist mount.

In any case, time will tell if this mount or, the magnifier itself is as good as I was left feeling it is. But after the firt time out, Im pretty stoked about this combo...

Hi New-ArGuy,  How heavy is your combo loaded?  I think close to 10 lbs?  Thanks

The 3X mag rocks !!!! Glad you like it NAG.

Neil,

I used one with a 2 MOA Comp M3 in the Texas State 3-Gun in San Angelo last weekend. The Samson mount works well, I also used the right-side one. No brass issues.  I still need to try it with an 4 MOA Comp M2 and see how it does at 3-400 yards. The 2 MOA one works fine. If I know I am facing a lot of longish shots versus contact distance stuff, a TA11 is still faster and easier to shoot accurately. This combo is superior between 20-100 yards though.

Yeah, pretty close. I only have a digital bathroom scale to weight it on, but it puts it at just under 9.5 lbs.

No, I dont have any pics of the reticle through the magnifier. I think I saw some on a for sale add in the Equipment Exchange though.

The Quick Flip looks like an excellent piece of equipment. Another thing to add to the wish list ( along with the 3x magnifier).

Alittle off topic-

That's a very nice carbine you put together Neil. Do the LMT SOPMOD stocks come in different colors or is that something you did yourself? Also wondering the same thing about the magpul triggerguard. Also was curious as to which rail system are you using?

I'm running out of receivers for all of these different optics set ups!

Phew!  Thanks for saving me some money.   Question for Neil on these types of course of fire:  Would have you been faster with your ACOG in the long run- or any more accurate?

LMT stocks come in black only. Mine has gotten the Krylon treatment. Magpul trigger guards ARE available in colors, but only IF you use the MIAD grip and use the plastic trigger guard that fits with the MIAD grip. The one on this rifle is their aluminum trigger guard (available only in black), also with the Krylon treatment. The FF rail is the RAS II.

I probably would have been faster using my ACOG, but that may very well be because I have been using it so long. This was my first time with this combo. My TA31 has, what seems to me, to be a MUCH wider FOV than the Aimpoint + magnifier. I have not looked at each side by side to compare though. ACOG image is also much more bright, clear and crisp. The view through the magnifier + aimpoint is a little yellow, probably because Im looking through 4 peices of glass? I dont know.

But, if you have an Aimpoint, I would get the magnifier + flip mount for it. It does a lot for the Aimpoint. My two optics of choice were always the ACOG and the Aimpoint. I liked them both best over anything else. The magnifier just makes me like my Aimpoint even better.

The TA31 series do have a wider FOV

Very cool set-up, good looking weapon. Looking at your set-up how much space do you have between the 3X and your M? I am considering getting the same 3X mount you are using.

Thanks

Sorry I missed your question... There isnt a lot of room between the optics. I would guess somewhere just under an inch.

We have a Leupy CQT at the moment for T&E and while it is heavier than a EOtech, it's lighter than the aimpoint/Eotech, mag and flip combo, neater and takes up a little less space. Also cheaper but admittedly doesn't go for a bazilllion hours per battery. Unless you're planning not to cart a spare...this is a non-issue IMO.

I know there are a group of folks who really like the CQT, but I never really liked them at all. Its feild of view was small (very small), the reticle did not light up very brightly( even on high), battery life was pretty poor and the mount was very bad. I am curious what the weight difference between the two set ups all in all. The 3x mag + Aimpoint combo is heavy, but so it the CQ/T.
