I'm thinking of replacing my standard front sight with a YHM-9394.

I'm just not sure how I feel about a front gas block held on with set screws..
Anyone have any thoughts?
I would also like to know how to make sure it's not canted when you mount it.
The only thing I could think of was 2 levels, one on the gas block, one on the a3 upper

I'm using them on both my bushys 20 inch .308 and .223 and they seem to work fine. Make sure you use loc-tite and I did use levels on the flat top and gas block. The fit was pretty tight before I cinched it down with the set screws

Make sure you get the gas hole is lined up.  I purchased an upper from the equipment exchange that had one and  it wouldnt fully cycle.  The gas block wasnt aligned, after adjusting it it functions flawlessly.

Haven't had any problems with mine. The two levels works well to get the sight straight. You can dimple the barrel for an even more  durable install but be absolutely sure the sight is where you want it first. Confirm that it is with a range trip, then dimple the barrel. Better yet, get the new clamp style front flip up from YHM.

I think that is the one I am looking at.
I guess I made a mistake, I thought it was set screws (I looked at so many flip up fronts I got them mixed up)

Three hex/allen bolts, on the bottom, secure it.

Ah - I have never had good luck with non pinned gasblocks - even the PRI one, I had one on an upper that went down to the Benning Sniper comp - fine for a bit of precison work - but as soon as it got shot agressively - it started to cough and gag.

I have sworn to using tapper pinned gasblocks for work stuff.

I have even heard of them (rarely) letting go. Seems like it might shift first as reliability seems to go south, then it goes chunk, moves forward under recoil, things fall off and you borrow another rifle. Luckily, only heard of recreation and classes, not anyone killed by it.

Everyone take that lesson to heart, and pin your gas block on.
