This might seem like a sort of silly question, but what is the best way to clean an EOtech?  I used windex once, and it didn't seem to work very well.  I tried using some lens cleaner cloths that I bought but they weren't that great either.  Shoud I try soap and water?

I guess it isn't that important, as long as you get it clean.  But I am paranoid to mess up the glass.

What about rubbing alcohol?  I have a lasermax for my glock and the manual says to clean the lens with rubbing alcohol (which doesn't work very well either I might add, and it gets gunked up pretty quick being so close to the muzzle).  Anyway, thanks in advance.

I use Windex with good results. I very lightly wet one end of a Q-tip to clean the glass, then flip the Q-tip over to dry it. No ill results at all.

Windex is excellent for cleaning, but it's notorious for taking the coating off of things (LCD monitors, optics, etc.).

Now the question is, does the EOTech have any type of coating on the outside lenses?

I thought that the EOtech had an anit-reflective coating.

With sealed optics, a good standard is to remove large particles with canned air, then go with soapy water. Your optics don't need to be pristine, and you'll usually do more damage cleaning them.

Windex has Amonnia and will strip any optical coating. I use some cleaner I got from Lenscrafters for glasses and a q-tip. After paying a pretty penny for a great sight I don't want to ruin the coating using harsh chemical cleaners.

OMG - Don't use windex on an LCD monitor -- the ammonia in windex can ruin the LCD

If it's not an oil based stain, water wil work fine.  Otherwise, I use the stuff for cleaning prescription glasses.

I use compressed air followed by camera lens cleaner solution with Q-tips and/or optical tissues, available at.....any camera store

Seriously though, spend a few bucks and get some quality cleaning gear. A camera lens blower brush, cleaning solution and optic tissues will only set you back a few bucks.

Isopropanol with a lens cloth.
