| Have A Bushy M4,can remove rear sight and carrying handle to mount an EOTech, but will front sight interfere with sight picture?......excuse my ignorance!. |
The whole idea of a BUIS is to have the ability to aim the weapon if your high-speed electro sight craps out. I would recommend you get a rear BUIS to complete your configuration. |
|
The real question should be where do you place that dot within the rear aperture so that the FS is not an interference. Do you put the dot right on top of the FS? To the side? ( ) Above it?The grander problem from whatever method you choose is in regards to the importance of sight picture and its consistency whenever you shoot. Thoughts, Eotech owners? - BG |
You don't need any other sight with it (BUIS or FSB). It's it own sight system. A BUIS is just that, a Back Up Iron Sight. The idea being, if you are in a real situation with your AR and for what ever reason the electronic sight goes out, you will still have a way to aim the rifle. If this is a working gun (i.e. Job, HD, SHTF) then you really should have a BUIS. If this is a range only gun then you really don't need one. |
It doesn't matter, so just mount it however works best for you. Just remember that zero-magnifiction red dots are meant to be used with both eyes open and focused on the target. |
As already stated, the FSB does not interfere with it. The SOP is, you sight your rifle in using the iron sights. Once done, you then sight in the Electronic sight. The cool thing about a sight like the Eotech is, regardless of what angle you look through it, where ever the center dot is, is where you are aiming at. What that means is, if you sighted in correctly and you have the proper check weld\head alignment, the dot will be right on your front post. if you look through the sight on an angle, the dot will be some place else. You just have to learn\remember to ignore the front sight post because when you are using the Eotech, the front sight post has no meaning. If you want less of the FSB in your sight picture then you need to use a LaRue mount which raises the sight up. |
Or you could just get an aimpoint, then you wouldn't have to worry about it crapping out |

I have 4 Eotechs. They are mounted directly on A3 "flattops". They all have front sight bases, and no, I don't notice them. I also have, on one, a Mangonel flip up rear sight, and plan to add Mangonels to the others. A fifth one belongs to my younger son. It has a Rock River upper with Yankee Hill 4 rail free float foreend. On this one, the Eotech is mounted on the handguard rail. There is the Rock River raised rail/rear sight combo screwed onto the flattop's rail, and this functions as a BUIS. And either the Eotech or rear sight may be removed if needed. |
So Aimpoint users in social situations forego irons? ![]() |
Just joking - Irons are always the bread and butter. I like co-witnessing, but in the lower half, Eotech or aimpont either way. Just with 10,000 hours of battery life vs 120 hours, less likely to need the irons with my ML2. |

I hope that's just an odd camera angle cause, What happens if that does crap out? Would you have to remove the EOtech?! That would be a PITA. Oh yeah, just remember folks, if you've never looked through any dot-style optic, a 2 dimensional picture is NOT what it will actualy look like. The whole rifle itself kind of "ghosts out"...you'll just see target and dot. |
