Opinions on best throw-lever mount for the 552? Who has them?

LaRue from MSTN or G and R Tactical.....   Look on the EE or in the Industry section for their names.

if you want the irons in the lower 1/3rd of the optic LaRue is the way to go imho

I believe it's GG&G that's making a throw lever to replace the locking screws in the EOTech mount.  As it is not a "mount" it keeps the optic at the original height.  It provides the QD function without rasising the sight.

Personally, I did not like the added height caused by the Larue mount.  After installing the mount, I could barely find my front sight when looking through the optic.  I sold the mount just last week.  I will use the proceeds to buy one of these QD levers instead.

EDITED TO ADD: I actually just ordered one from the GG&G web site.

Remember that your back up irons are just that (back ups) and should be out of the way as much as possible.
There are groups in the military that don't co-witness their irons and optics at ALL (as they want the optic up higher as it gives you a better FOV and increases you situational awareness). You will start to see more and more mounts that pick the optic up higher and higher (as the .Mil crowd asks for them this way).

Guess you should tell that to LaRue, as the only BUIS he makes is fixed position

But it is out of the way, that's the reason why you look over your sights.

Plus with a slight shift of your  "head" your irons are ready to go without flipping anything up.

Mr. LaRue is well aware that he needs to make a flip up BUIS!

Actually, the perfect mount for me would be a cross between the two.  I prefer GG&G's QD system, but like the extra height that the LaRue provides.

I understand your point, but i could almost not see the front sight at all.  Acquiring the front sight became almost impossible.  It wasn't in the often quoted, "bottom third" of the optic.  It was in the bottom 5-10% of the window.  Finding the front sight was too slow.  I like to be able to actually see my sights, especially in dim light.  I felt I would have had to use the QD levers and completely remove the optic to effectively use my BUIS.  After all, that's what they're for but what do you do with the optic that is now in your hand.

Everyone else likes them, I guess.  Definitely NOT what I wanted.   But, hey, it's just one man's opinion.

Hey Mike! Nothing wrong with your opinion (as it is your weapon). I was just telling you where the current trend in mounts is going. If your EOTech was to do die (and you were shot at), you would seek cover and flip the lever to ditch the optic and continue on. I am pretty sure that you would either chit can the optic on the spot or throw it an pocket/bag.

this is why i live fold down front sights

i like to keep my optics as close to the bore as possible

Thanks much guys. I'm of the "as close to the bore as possible" crowd also and the "co-witness" concept is only important to ME if I can't get my EoTech or Aimpoint or whatever I'm using off in a hurry - as the need for the throw-lever. What I didn't quite understand was, is the LaRue mount a throw-lever or quick-release mount?

The LT EOTech mount is QD/Repeat zero.

To keep the front end from flopping around during recoil and such.
