Not out yet. By the looks of its at the SHOT Show, hopefully never! Looked like a damn boat horn..... That was one ugly looking piece of gear. From its initial design (please please let that be its initial design) it holds nothing over the Aimpoint 3x magnifier, which is compatible with the EOTech. |
Shot Show version is only a prototype. The retail one will be all one unit with a rubber hood connecting the magnfier to the base unit. Retail.......$800+ ouch! They had pics of the retail version which looks slick, but long. No chance to mount a PVS-14 or other night optics behind it. The base unit recticle, or lack there of will be a series of verticl dots for range definition.

I've seen different reports -- one that says target price for magnifier alone is $300ish, and another that says EoTech will sell the magnifier only with a new Holosight unit. Maybe that $800 is the combined price for both. As I understand it, they want to incorporate a hood between the two to limit light coming in. That makes the controls on current units inaccessible. So when incorporating the hood, they are coming out with a new Holosight unit with side-mounted controls. Supposedly that unit will incorporate the ranging reticle with holdover dots. FWIW, early prototype did not incorporate a hood. Maybe from that testing they determined hood was needed. WTF knows. I wish someone could provide the correct story on this one, whether or not EoTech will sell just the magnifier and whether or not it will be backward compatible with current 51X/55x series units. |

Okay guys, I just got off the phone with EOTech and here's what they told me. 1. The magnifier that will be released was the CAD model that was shown at their shot show booth. 2. The magnifier will be released as 4x to compete with the ACOG's. 3. As mentioned above the magnifier will require a new hood attachment design and will not be backward compatible with the older units! I don't like this one...  4. Because of #3 the new EOTech with the four BDC dots will be sold as a package with the magnifier. 5. The BDC dots are setup for M855 from a 14.5" barrel. The BDC will be a bit off but will still be very usuable with 16" and 20" barrels. 6. The targeted MSRP will be between $600-$800 for the package. I think this is quite reasonable. 7. Production start up is targeted for mid-summer 05. *This may be subject to change.  That's all for now. I guess we all need to find something todo while we wait...

That is relatively consistent with what they told me last fall, although we never discuss cost, just set-up, and they weren't sure on the details at that time. |
