You need steel punch pins and a hammer to drive the pins holding the front sight base out - they go out left to right.

You have to hit them HARD and do it right fairly quickly or else the heads will start to mushroom and the pins won't fit through the channel; it's not a job for the faint of heart.

Here's the punch you want; I copied its entry from Brownells

28 - TAPER PIN STARTER - This tool's radiused face matches the end of the front sight housing taper pin to prevent damage during removal. Its tapered pin is removed by driving from left to right; the small end is on the left side of the barrel, the large end is on the right side!

SPECS: 4" (10.2cm) long. 3/32" (2.4mm) diameter tip.

Left to right from the muzzle point of view or left to right from the stock point of view?

basically, the pins come out the side of the ejection port.  left to right from the stock.
