I have got to use both, and like them both. It was a NSN Acog, and it did not have the BAC I seem to be in the minority (as I rarely see ELCANs in AR pics), but I thought the Elcan was a bit better ? Anyone tried them both ? any thoughts? |
I got to take a good long look at the ELCAN, and I can vouch for the glass. They have found their home on top of the SAW. The gun that I want right now but can never have is a MK46 Mod 0, a 13 lb SAW with a 16"barrel. ELCAN would be a perfect scope. Edited for spelling. |

I don't care for the TA01. The TA31 or TA11 are somewhat better, but IMO, the glass isn't as good as an Elcan, and I prefer the Elcan reticle. (Both old and new style.) And it's hard to beat an Elcan for low-light use (other than NVG!) To each their own. I certainly wouldn't turn down a TA31 if someone wanted to give me one, but if I am going to spend my money, it'll be on more Elcans. |
I really like that 20" rifle! Canadian M16 replica ? Why is the buis in front? spacing issue? thanks |
It's apples to apples in the sence that they both are a 3-4X optic, used in similar applications, and sit on top the flat top? |
Thanks! Ya, it's a C7A2-gery. Why? Because everyone else has a M4gery! The BUIS should be a Deimaco, but since those are very hard to find, I went with a CavArms BUIS. (I also have a thing against folding BUIS!) With the large aperture up, it is no problem to get minute-of-man accuracy out to 100 meters (the farthest I shot it.) You could put a 'short' BUIS behind the Elcan, but you can run into spacing issues, due to the height of the Elcan and the need to keep the elevation ring accessible. In a few weeks, my C7A1-gery should be complete... ;) (No ties to Canada, other than some familiy in Ottowa and Montreal, but I dig those Canuck guns)
+1. IMO, you won't be going wrong with either. |
Is the buis used "with" the elcan or do you remove the elcan to use the buis? Thanks in advance |

Scenario: Stop sign 800 meters out. aprox 2200 hours (night) Although distant, vehicle headlights illuminate stop sign.. Colt HBAR Preban 1/9, ruck as bipod - Elcan scope. Tracer M856 ammunition - M855 as well. Placed 4 rounds out of 5 on stop sign. Jacket of round lodged into the stop sign.. Carbon steel core continues foreward girl friend Keyholing at 200 meters her first time out firing.. Totally rugged, return to zero removal.. and replacement Large wheel to turn for ballistic compensation.. somewhat idiot proof "but, ya know" lol I just cant say enough of the Elcan scope.. Bad to the bone.. Again like the others said.. the glass.. I think its 42mm i dont remmeber.. it just lights it up.. Living in the boonies I could see my mailbox at night 25 meters away down my drive in the DARK.. I couldnt see it with the naked eye otherwise.. |
btdrygulch will be able to tell ya |
