My friend was completely bollocksed up this weekend trying to zero his Aimpoint. Instead of the traditonal elevation and windage adjustments (up/down left/right) each knob moved the POI BOTH up/down AND left/right. One knob read UP/L and the other had Down/R. (or maybe the opposite but each knob moved the POI either up/down OR left/right). WTF? The adjustments operated on an X-axis. It took 2 hours to get that thing zeroed. His was an older Comp M type but I don't know the exact model. Are all Aimpoints like this? How does one zero that thing? |

OK, let's take this one step at a time. With the Aimpoint mounted on the weapon, one adjustment knob will be straight up and the other will be either off to the left at 90 degrees or off to the left at 90 degrees. The adjustment knobs will NOT be at 45 degrees. The knobs are marked UP/LEFT and DOWN/RIGHT because the scope can be mounted with either knob straight up. Whichever knob is on top when mounted will make adjustments UP and DOWN only in the direction indicated depending on which knob it is. Whichever knob is off to the side will make adjustments LEFT and RIGHT only in the direction indicated depending on which knob it is. If your knobs are mounted at an angle so that the flip-up covers will be straight up or down, simply remove the caps and remount them the way you want them after you properly orient the adjustment knobs. Does this make sense? Remember, the knobs, when viewed from the back of the rifle when you are holding it ready to fire, should look like this + not like this X. HTH |

I thought about this some today and I suspected that might be the case, but wasn't really sure (I figured that because the dot can't really be centered like a crosshair, that some provision for alternative zeroing must be at play but I hadn't quite figured it out). In fairness to me, I wasn't the one troubleshooting and zeroing the scope, but I didn't know exactly how to tell the others how to zero the scope anyway. Thanks for the help--I'll pass it along. Oh, and the manual I looked at on Aimpoint's website didn't even explain it. So thanks again. EDIT: and I believe that the knobs were set wrong as well--like an X. No wonder. |
