| What is a good optic for competition where targets range from IPSC Sils, at 15 ft to 6" plates at 120+ yards? I have been using a 3-9X40 Nikon and done "ok" but not as good as I would like to do I had considered the Aimpoint with a 2 MOA dot and 2x Magnifier but I have been told this is a "horrible sight" and everyone seems to think that the ACOG has to much power for in close... I have half considered an Acog (which i can not afford right now) for the longer stuff and a Laser Sight for teh Close stuff, but from my experience the Laser is Uber-Gay and is Slower in action than a dot or even my Nikon set on 3 X. Anyone have suggestions the close and far shots are 50-50 but the rifle match is usually won or lost on those 100-135 yard 6" plates |

Low $$$ option, EOTech. The 1MOA dot in the reticle's center will work well on the steel and the 65MOA outer ring will be fast on the close range stuff. Higher $$$ option. Trijicon Accupoint 1.25x4 on an extended rail. Will work well at all ranges. If you ever travel to an event with 200-300 yard stages it will be your best friend. |

For a .223 AR? Simmons Pro-Diamond 1.5-5. About $100. Durable through the many 3-gun matches mine has been to. I was hitting 4" square plates every time at 100 yards, and 8" plates at 200, with the clock running. Its a shotgun scope, but works fine for 3-gun. Crank it to whatever power you need. The diamond reticle works for close hosing, and the crosshair inside the diamond for long range. There is an illuminated version available, but I have not tried it. Lee |
