Anybody have one and how do you like it?  How different are they to the M2?  Will I notice a difference if all do is plink on the weekends?

I had one for six or so years. Worked great. I swapped batteries out every year or so. With the new M2 the batteries will last far longer.

The battery life is far less than the M2, but that is about the only major difference. It would make a good plinker optic for sure!

CompM  = 10 to 100 hrs
CompM XD = 100 to 1000 hrs
CompM2 = 1000 to 10,000 hrrs

CompM and CompM XD are 2 piece bodies, the CompM2 is a 1 piece body.

Is the brightness the same with the Comp M and M2?

The M2 is brighter I believe....

I have an M and an M2 and the M2 is much brighter, even with the battery upgrade I put in my M.

There is a batt. upgrade for the M?
Please excuse my questions, I'm looking for a good quality used sight and I found an CompM but I wanted to get some feedback on them.  I heard that CompM's aren't very good in daylight.
Would $225 be a good price for an used but in perfect shape CompM without rings?  I was considering a Tacpoint but for $75 more I could get an Aimpoint.
Thanks.

I have the compM, and you know what?  It works FINE for me.  No problems.  Even in bright daylight I have never had it up to full power.

I have a Comp ML on my M4, best Infantry gunfighting sight available IMO

Brownells sells a new cap made by Rescomp that allows you to fit another 1.5V cell in there (no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get two 1/3Ns to fit):

A little high IMHO. I paid $150 for a worn Comp M that finished up pretty nicely with some Alumahyde.

Ok guys here's what I found and please tell me which one you would get.

Comp M excellent shape without ring $225
Comp MLXD good shape W/ standard low mount Aimpoint ring $225 ( I would have to buy a new ring with this one because it mounts too low)

Is the Comp M a better sight because of the brightness control?

I am so freakin' confused!!!

The one used CompM I was gonna buy is barely bright enough during the day, it was sent back to Sweden, it came back scarcely better.  I'd just get the M2 or ML2, because of their much better power management, warranty, and the brighter dots.

I bought the same, found out the same and did the same thing you did.  It made the dot noticably brighter, but nowhere near as bright as my M2.

I got lectured by someone here because you are now running your diode at 4.5V vs. 3V and you have the potential of burning up the diode.  I'm a mechanic, not an electrician, so I don't have a clue on whether that is true or not.

So, why micky mouse with it when $100+ gets you an ML2?  I will not use it if someone gave one to me.

$160 for the Comp M with mount, $30 or so for the battery upgrade.  Maybe I could get an ML2 for $100 more but I doubt that would include a mount.  Maybe used, but they go very quickly at that price.  I like to try stuff, see what works and what doesn't.

And if you are stuck with a dim Comp M or Comp ML, it is a slightly better than mickey mouse upgrade to brighten up the dot.

The CompM-XD is the original M68 COO sight.  I've had one for many years on my personal M4 Carbine  and see no reason to replace it with the CompM2 other than battery life.  I can get several days out of a battery on the CompM-XD so the economics just ain't there.

Buying new?  The CompM2 is a better sight and is the currentl M68 COO sight.  But you can buy a lot of batteries and ammo for $150.

Avoid the ML and ML2 if possible, they're more likely to have distorted dots.  Never seen a CompM (not XD) but there may be some out there.

There's no reason that the CompML or CompML2 should have more "distorted" dots than the CompM or CompM2.  The diode systems are no different between the two versions. (M/ML or M2/ML2).

In fact, nearly all apparent distortion is in the eye of the user and not in the sight at all.

I have a Comp M.  If I were to buy again, I'd pay a bit extra for the M2.  I may not always need the brighter dot, but it is worth the extra to know that the sight will always be bright enough for me in all conditions.  I would rather pay a little more for something I know will always work rather than save a few bucks on something that might work.

BTW, you can also close the front cover on the Comp M if it is too bright out.  With both eyes open, the red dot will still appear over the target.  Kind of a Mickey Mouse way to do it, but is enough to get you by when you jsut can't see the dot against a reflective background.
