whats the real added bonus for nv 552 over the 510 with out?

for regualr usage the 510 should do all the 5552 does right?

the nv is only good if you have nv goggles correct?

I sprung for the night vision 551 model.  Don't use it, but felt I should have it, just in case I wanted to use it later.

You don't really need the NV option but the 551 has the hood protector for the laser sight.  It's really rugged and it's worth the upgrade (IMO).

Otherwise, save yourself some money and get the Bushnell Holosight 2.

All my EoTechs are 511.A65's.   I prefer the shorter model and don't care about the battery life.  They have the protective hoods and are tough enough to take all the abuse I'll ever give them.   I use NV scopes on my AR's, but I don't use my red dots in conjunction with them.

The 550 series scopes are nice, but it's just not worth the extra money for an option that I know I won't use.

I got the 511 non night vision with the hood.  I figure if I ever had enough money to get night vision I would be in a position to financially to upgrade the site as well.

Same here. It was really tempting to spend the extra $$$ and spring for the military NV model but I too went with the 511.A65 instead. If you never plan on purchasing NVG's go with the 511 and use the extra cash for ammo to zero and enjoy your new optic!

Another plus for the 552 (over the 512) is the rubber buttons.  Much more positive feel than the bubble buttons of the lower models.

Except that all EOTechs will have the rubber buttons starting with RevF.

There ya go... that was my ONLY reason for considering the 550 series...

511-A65 RevF it is...

(eventually... when I've got the rest of the $300, and can get on a waiting list...)

The NV settings on the Eotech are useful even without NV. The lowest brightness setting on the "normal" range is often too bright when engaging targets at night. The top 1 or 2 settings on the NV range get the reticle brightness down to where you can still see a lot with a dark adapted eye without having to fire up a flashlight.
