| Which optic do you perfer on your carbine? What are the ups and downs of each? |
|
Is there a comparison? The trijicon reflex has a nickle sized window and a dim tritium chevron that washes out in bright light, the sight also requires a killflash for a bright enough dot to be useful. The Aimpoint has none of those faults. I would look at the trijicon reflex as a replacement for back-up irons. The sight is not good enough in my book to make frontline optic criteria. It is very strong though (or at least appears so) You might want to look at the ZEISS Z-POINT. It has two year constant on battery life and costs approx $300. it in my mind is a better optic than a Trijicon reflex and operates along similar lines. The newer DR.Optic sights are supposed to run approx 2.5years constant on, but they have a dot projected on glass from the outside (so rain can occlude the dot, whereas this is not a problem with the Z-Point.) |

The Reflex ceased being attractive once the Aimpoint with the improved battery life came out. In my experience, the Aimpoint has two principal advantages: (1) the sight picture is much brighter; and (2) the illumination can be changed. You are at the mercy of your environment when it comes to illumination for the Reflex, which sometimes results in washing out or excessive brightness. The only cool thing about the Reflex is the triangle reticle IMHO. It is a nice balance between speed and precision. I've had both, and consider the Aimpiont to be vastly superior. |

Aimpoint on all points. The only feature of the Trijicon that is interesting is it's non battery status and the fact it's always "on". But as the others have said with the improved battery life of the Aimpoints and now the new Eotech models that's not much of an argument anymore. The only people I see continuing to champion the reflex sight are those last few holdouts that are true battery phobes. This situation has become akin to individuals that continue to cling to their revolvers because they're convinced that every auto pistol on the market is going to jam up at just that precise moment of engagement. My Reflex bounces back and forth between a banged up AK 47 and a Ruger 10-22. And my Smith and Wesson 686 stays clipped under the seat of my vehicle as a "backup" weapon. |

Aimpoint, no question. The lens tint, amber reticle and washout issues on the Reflex make it inferior to the Aimpoint in my view and the battery life of the new red dots (Aimpoint M2/Eotechs) is such that tritium power is no longer a significant advantage. The Reflex is essentially obsolete technology, even Trijicon is replacing it with the Tripower. |
Hi Grant, I know I'm reading between the lines but are you trying to say go with an AIMPOINT!? ![]() www.csgunworks.com Here’s some testimonials about CS GunWorks for AR15 Board Mike at CS Gunworks is... |
What would you like to see? A triangle, chevron, 1MOA dot? The Aimpoint is about speed on target, but one can make 300M + shots with them with a little practice and get some good groups.. C4 |
