I just recently picked up an JT/Bushy M4A3 with detachable carry handle.  The rifle should be in my FFL's hands in a few days.  I also have an Aimpoint that is mounted on a scout mount so the unit is right over the handgaurd.  This works good with my fixed handle AR, but I've heard that this mount isn't so good when used with a detachable handle.

Is this true.  Is there a problem with this configuration on a detachable handle?  I  know I can remove the Aimpoint and mount it on the rail, but for now would like to keep the handle configuration on the rifle.

I have been wanting to do the same thing.  I have a C-More with a scout mount and it does not fit my detachable carry handle.  I don't know about the Aimpoint scout.  I emailed Aimpoint about it, but have not heard back.  I just ordered this mount and got it today

I will try it on my rifle tonight and let you know if it fits or not.  They said it would.

If it does not, the only other option I have found is #21231 on this page

I hope the one from CDNN works because I don't really want to spend $80 for the riflescopes one.

I just tried it on and it seems to work, although I do not have an aimpoint yet to try it out with.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're asking, but the AimPoint is best mounted at least forward enough that it is over the Delta ring.  Even further forward works a little better, though it may disrupt the balance of the rifle somewhat, so you have to figure out where you are most comfortable.

I use what I believe is the best AimPoint mount available, the ARMS #22M68 mount.  Among its features is the ability to be configured for a variety of rifle configurations.  I'm using the full-height (.5"), cantilever spacer, but I could also be using a straight spacer (if, for example, I had the AimPoint mounted on the handguards), or if I was already using a rail that added .5" of height to the flattop (such as the ARMS #38, ARMS SIR, KAC RAS II hump, GG&G Fire Rail, etc.), then I could remove the .5" spacer entirely and still mount the AimPoint at the proper height.  No other mount has this flexibility.

I just got the M4 and the forward gooseneck mount when attached to the removable carry handle leaves the Aimpoint to high over the handgaurd to use the iron sights.  Hummm, to bad as I wanted to leave the carry handle on and use the Aimpoint as well.

I guess that's not going to happen with this set up.

I strongly agree with Troy.  Ditch the carry handle & get a good BUIS OR chop it off to make a BUIS (look real close at Troy's picture; his BUIS is a chopped carry handle).  Go with the 22M68 and canteliver spacer.  You won't be disappointed.

rock - is that the same gooseneck mount as the one wedge is describing from cdnn? if so, then it definitely will not co-witness with your iron sights because it sits too high. in fact, i do not know of any sight you can mount on it and co-witness. i bought one of those a few years back and did not like it at all. it sat in my basement since then and when i sold off the things i do not use, that was one of the them. i have aimpoints that i use on my a2 models with the aimpoint forward mount with the quick release mount. it seems to sit high but they co-witness just fine. i do not have any experience with the relability of mounting it to a detachable carry handle. i would guess that it would be alright if you use the detachable carry handle and it shoots fine with its iron sights. i could be wrong though. my flat top ar's have eotechs mounted on them and have a buis. i hope this helps.

rock- I think that the scout mount from CDNN will work with a regular 30mm x wide weaver mount.  I just keep thinking that there must be some way to make this set up work.  I will never give up the dream!!
