Which "factory Aimpoint ring" are you referring to?  The answer is most likely "yes, you'll need a riser"

BTW, clearing the front sight post is a non-issue.  The Aimpoint will work just fine if you leave the front lens cap closed so the front sight is clearly not anything to worry about.

Authentic Aimpoint QRP mounts use a spacer to witness correctly.

He means that with both eyes open, the front sight is not an issue.  Correct mounting height will allow "co-witness" through the Aimpint and is generally the preferrred way to go.

You're going to need a spacer.

Exactly what I said.  Dot sights are used with both eyes open and focusing on the target.  If you do that then it doesn't matter what's in front of the dot sight becuase it'll just 'ghost out' anyway.

For an example, with both eyes open and focused on something across the room (say the TV), place the end of your index finger in front of one eye.  You'll be able to see the TV just fine and there'll be a 'shadow' of your finger.  The dot sight will work the same way except that there'll be a red dot 'floating' over the TV.

What you need to worry about with the mount for your optic is getting the dot high enough that you can see it while maintaining a comfortable cheek weld.

How about the Aimpoint QRP mount on an ARMS #38 ?  Does the Swan sleeve raise the Aimpoint enough to cowitness without the spacer?

Yes it does, it will be perfect.

Thanks for clarification. I have a GG@G scout rail otw to use with the aimpoint ring which should give enough clearance. I will see how well this site works once I get everything together.
