I will be mounting an aimpoint knock off on my flat top ar using a factory aimpoint ring, I need to know will this require a riser to clear the front site post and still cowitness? thanks in advance |

Which "factory Aimpoint ring" are you referring to? The answer is most likely "yes, you'll need a riser" BTW, clearing the front sight post is a non-issue. The Aimpoint will work just fine if you leave the front lens cap closed so the front sight is clearly not anything to worry about. |

He means that with both eyes open, the front sight is not an issue. Correct mounting height will allow "co-witness" through the Aimpint and is generally the preferrred way to go. You're going to need a spacer. |

For an example, with both eyes open and focused on something across the room (say the TV), place the end of your index finger in front of one eye. You'll be able to see the TV just fine and there'll be a 'shadow' of your finger. The dot sight will work the same way except that there'll be a red dot 'floating' over the TV. What you need to worry about with the mount for your optic is getting the dot high enough that you can see it while maintaining a comfortable cheek weld. |
