Hello Folks, A friend of mine recently was bragging to me about his new Tasco Pro Point he had mounted on his AR. He claims it is a lot better than any old Aimpoint, Trijicon, Eotech, etc. And the best thing, he claims, is the low price. Now, this is coming from the same guy that bought a new SIG P226 in .45ACP about twelve years agon and still has 34 of the original 50 round box of ammunition he bought with it!! Also says he has this rig mounted ahead of the carry handle rear sight but was vague on how this was accomplished! Any comments on this out there? Thanks |

Is that the same as the "PDP" series? If so, I had a PDP3 up until yesterday that went over 10 years on 2 rifles (7.62x39 and 5.56) and never missed a beat, but it certainly was no Aimpoint. I gave it to a guy in the CID yesterday who was going overseas this week. He had bought an NCStar with a cheap carry handle mount for the detachable carry handle on his issued M4. He couldn't get the NCStar to zero at all. I know a PDP3 ain't an Aimpoint, but it was all I had. If I had an Aimpoint, I'd have given him that. I hope it holds up as well for him as it did me. But if it's any consolation, I talked him into an ARMS #40 and a cowitnessed mounting position, and spotted for him while he zeroed. The scope held zero quite well through the 40 rounds he ran through it. I didn't get to "shoot" his M4, but I got to hold it, and I did flip the safety all the way forward once [:D] I was really hoping he'd let me run a few rounds through it, but he may not have been comfortable with that idea. Oh well, I enjoyed myself. |
| Had one for awhile till I switched it out for an aimpoint. It was a pdp3. One of the early ones. Always kept zero. After taking it off I tried a couple things to test it(curiousity). Dropped it from over 5ft onto a pc of outdoor carpet (very thin) that was covering cement. Did it about three times with no damage. Didn't put it back on gun to check zero though. I also sumersed it in about a foot of water for 30min. No leaks. I gave it to a neighbor and it still works good. I still hate tasco though. |

I have one. It's not a bad little optic but to compare it to the Aimpoints and Eotechs is absurd. The sharpness on the dots in the Aimpoint and Eotech alone is head and shoulders above the Tasco. The whole battery life issue is so much of a difference as to barely even be debatable. If this argument ever comes up again kick your friend in the nuts and walk away. |
