By that so you mean you have an A2 upper?  Or do you have an A3 upper with a removeable carrying handle?

If you have an A2 upper, I would look into either the ARMS #2 (www.armsmounts.com/list.html#2) or #39 (www.armsmounts.com/list.html#39).  These mounts will allow you to mount either an Aimpoint or an EOTech, which would be my choice of optics if you plan on shooting only out to about 200 yards.

If you in fact have an A3 upper, I would still get and Aimpoint (mounted with an ARMS #22M68 with Spacer) or an EOTech mounted straight to the upper itself.

And if you have an A3 upper, and plan on shooting out past 200 yards the majority of the time, I would look into an ACOG of some sorts.  Possibly a TA31, TA31F, or TA01 NSN mounted with a ARMS #19S.

Hope this helps and was not too confusing.

Edited to add:  Oh yeah, if you do have an A3 upper, you might want a BUIS of some sorts, and for that I would recommend a ARMS #40A or the newer, but yet publically released, ARMS #40L.

Thanks!

I have an A2 (non-detachable handle).

I will be shooting at close range, mostly under 200.

I have a Compact ACOG on my carry handle and rarely shoot past 100 yards.  No matter the distance, it is one hell of an optic...it takes a beating and retains zero.

I'm sure that I'll get laughed at, but I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5-4x32 with the firefly reticle on my Bushmaster. I think it's perfect for short range shooting, and it only cost me $250 with the mounting rings. The nice this is that the firefly reticle is charged with a flashlight, and it brightens as the conditions get darker. In my opinion, it has about the same functionality as the $850 Trijicon ACOG's, at about 1/4 the price. The only drawback is that it is alot longer than the ACOG.

Hey my hats off to you. Remember, use what you have as long as it works. Save your money and buy ammo and range time. When money permits by better equipment.

Good shooting.

DOH!!!!

[slap]

I forgot to mention Compact ACOGs as an option for an A2 upper.

As V_Johnson wrote, a Compact ACOG is a viable option.  It has less magnification than its bigger brother, but is versatile nonetheless.  It will allow for target identification at farther distances than an EOTech or an Aimpoint simple because 1.5x magnification is better than no magnification.

Sorry for forgetting this earlier.

I deceided to go with the TA-11. I belong to one club with a 75 yard rifle range and I have access to another with 200 yards. Any advice on zero at 75 yards.
