Has anybody used these things?  I'm looking
for a very small red dot to possibly mount on
top of an ACOG a la Duffy and some others.  Beside Optima(discontinued I think) and Dr. Optic, are there any other small red dots and somebody who makes mounts other than specwargear guy?  Are these any good?  Thanks for the input.

Got one for my father-in-law as a birthday gift with a mount for a .45. He immediately purchased a mount for M1913 rails and put it on his Bushmaster AR-15. The next time we visited, I went to the range with it. Honestly, I was very impressed. The thing is tiny and sturdy. Adjustment was relatively easy. Once I had it zero'ed in, it was dead on. It was an indoor range so I was limited to 50 feet. Still, I had one of those 5-target slow-fire pistol targets. With both eyes open and a little practice, could hit the tiny 10 ring on all five in, say, 10 seconds. In five seconds I could put five rounds in the black - 1 per target.

It's not a replacement for an ACOG or an EOTech or even an Aimpoint. However, it is outstanding on pistols and I have seen it mounted to the scope rings as an effective emergency sight. I have nothing bad to say about them.

I use/sell the JPoint optic and love it! Here are some pics of it:

I'm addicted to Docter sights.
I make mounts for them for various guns but my favorite is the UZI.
The Tasco Optima was made in the UK. Brownells sold it as the Firepoint.  The JPoint is the same sight still made in the UK.  I have heard that it was improved but it is still an all plastic sight.  I have two Optimas and about 5 Docter sights.  I would take the Docter hands down anytime.  The Docter's are made from Glass, Stainless steel, aluminum and brass.
Below is a link to my website:

Below is an idea I came up with for mounting the Docter on my Glock.  I went with the forward mount for a few reasons:
1. It doesn't get in the way of the rear slide serrations.
2. I can easily go back to my iron sights if need be.
3. If the gun gets jammed hard, I can push on the rear sight to clear it.  (This has been an issue with my suppressor mounted.  The Glock has been totally reliable without the suppressor.)

Love that Glock mount for the Dr. Optics!  Could you make a high-rise mount so as not to get in the way of the "irons"?

What do you mean?  The irons don't get in the way.
That picture is a little old.  I replaced the plastic sights with steel ones.

No, the irons don't get in the way, the optic gets in the way of the irons.  Could you make a raised mount for the Dr. Optics so that the front sight post is not blocked?  TIA.

Ohhh, OK!!
Yes, I could have done that but I have absolutely no desire to do that.  I want the lowest profile I can get.  If the Glock's slide was wider, I would have gone directly to the slide.

amphibian;

Sweet setup.  Are you manufacturing the Glock mounts for sale?  Please explain a bit more on the attachemnt arrangement.  How much do you modify the slide?

I haven't considered offering them for sale.  That is why you can't see them on my website unless you know the path to get to the pics.
This was the first one and it came out perfect for what I wanted.
I am using an existing Docter mount then milling the dovetail off except for a small "lug area".  It serves as additional support like a dovetail..  This "lug" goes in a milled recess in the top of the slide.  The slide is also drilled/tapped for this modified Docter mount.
I am waiting on two more Docters to come in.  When they do, they will be mounted to a G23 with this same type of mount and the other will be directly mounted to a G21 since the slide is wider.

The Dr.Optic has better materials in it than the JPoint, but I don't think it warrants the higher price. The JPoint has had a lot of upgrades to it over the Optima so it isn't fair to say the two are the same...

Winston, how do you like that setup?  Is it easy to zero in?  I was a little worried the profile would be too high.  Also, who made the mount?  I need one like that except made for a non-nsn so it doesn't mount on the back irons.  Specwargear said they were currently working on one but hopefully there is more than one person doing this.

I had a Dr Optic on my supressed HK Tac.  If you were to get one I would suggest the larger dot (7 ?)  I have the 3 and for a lot of $ you can get a brighter one.  I had no problem with the standard brightness.

It is not a quck draw sight as it has a hood that must first be removed for it to work... and I needed to work up a "best practice" to aquire the dot in self defence shoots (Hood in pocket, draw, drop the front sight till red dot came down, fire fire).

It is a lot easier that lining up sights for older eyes, but if your eyes are older, a bigger dot can help.  I liked it but felt that for me, it slowed down my quick draws athe the shoots.

Hope this is some help.

Oh... 2,000+ rounds on the Tac, supressed/not suppressed (no jams).  Luvvvv my HK

... So far, I’m happy with the setup.

.. Zeroing was no different than if it were net to a flat top. Stability on the mount is assured by a fixed pin that is a press fit into a corresponding blind hole in the optic.

... I made the mount. I designed it using a high end CAD/CAM/CAE platform and made it using a process called Selective Laser Sintering  or (SLS) which is a method by which three-dimensional parts are created by the fusing or sintering of powdered thermoplastic materials with the heat from an infrared laser beam.
It light yet rugged, it is not yet blacked out in this picture.

... I too have inquired about a mount from Specwargear, but they don’t plan on having any aluminum ones in until later next month. Also, their design isn’t finely “optimized” for mass properties and as is mine.

... These are what my CAD models ended up looking like.

I'm looking at getting a 7moa military version next week. The only reason I went with the TA01NSN/Dr. combo was due to issues with my vision and using the BAC effectively. Since I was getting a Trijicon for my M4 I only looked at the TA01NSN and the TA31F and the TA31F would be perfect for me if I didn't have such a hard time picking up the Chevron. The TA31F would be great for me if I could have a mount which would allow the Dr. to sit on top.

This would allow me the quick red dot on top and time for my aging eyes to sync in with the BAC properly when needed.
