I'm sure this has been addressed to some extent, but a search turned up nil so..

Anyhow, I'm looking to accessorize my Colt A2 for those 200m+ shots, and I'd like some opinions on good optics that will mount directly to my carrying handle, without obscuring BUIS. I'm looking to spend $300 or less.. basically something a little higher end, but comparable to, the Colt 4x20's. Any info/opinions would be appreciated..

Unless you're stuck on wanting only optics with an integrated carry handle mount,
A Leatherwood mount, ARMS #2 or ARMS #39 and some rings would open up your optics choices.

200m PLUS?

how much plus?

you can use your irons to 200 w/o problem.
at 200 to say 400 any 4x scope will do.
if you wanted to go 200-600 i would try to talk you into a Leupold base and 3.5x10 VariX-III scope.  but that's about 500.00 for scope rings and mount.  if you want to shoot long range it will cost money.

I use an ARMS #2 mount with ARMS # 21 rings and am looking at a Super Sniper 10x42.  If I had to keep the price under $300 I would purchase an ARMS #2 scope mount, Burris matte finished Zee rings and a matte finished Burris 3x9 Fullfield II.

Hm, I need to look closer when I browse through my Bushmaster catalog.. the ARMS #2 seems to be the logical choice for a mount. As far as shot distance, my range only goes out to 200m, but I occasionally shoot slightly longer when I get out to the country - maybe up to 300m or so, nothing terribly long. I plan on piecing together a flattop as soon as I can scrape the cash togerther.. I just want something (for lack of a better term) "neat" to slap on my A2 to pacify me until then. In any case, the ARMS does indeed open up plenty of options. Thanks as always for the input.

dude.
if your looking to get a flat top.
then get a stripped upper flat top from BM, wrench and a block for the vice and do the conversion.  it will be well worth your time and effort!

I've actually considered it, if just to learn how to do it, however if/when I do buy an A3 it's going to be a very different animal than the rifle I have now. Basically, in the end I want 'em both, so I don't want to swap my existing upper out.

Optic + A2 Upper = Compact ACOG

Oops just noticed your specified range is < $300... Well all I can say is save up! You will never, ever regret buying an ACOG. It is more robust than Colt 4x20, it is dual illuminated equipped with BAC, your shots will be faster.

Tell me more about compact acogs... I have an a-2/20in. that I would like to scope out right.  Which compact do you have or like?  I have looked at the trijicon website, but would like to hear from the folks who shoot with em.

Thanks!

Compact Trijicon TA50-2  3x with triangle reticule.  It rocks!  Capable from touching distance to 500M, very lightweight, durable, and works well in low light.

cost of the ACOGs are about $750.00-1000.00.

Either TA47-2 or TA50-2 with triangle reticule. You can choose either Amber or Red (personal preferences). You won't be shooting match grade groups but practically Compact ACOG is the best option for A2 upper.
