| I have a 20" Colt A3. I want to put a optic on but don't know if I want a holo-sight or a powered scope. I shoot alot of varmit and coyote with my rifle. Sometimes off hand sometimes from a bench. I want it to be as universal as can be, so I think I want a BUIS. I also think that having a SHTF ready rifle is important. Money isn't a problem but I don't want to waste it either. I would appriciate any input. Thanks, Errol |

Not to hijack your thread, but I am in the same position. A holo sight is interesting, but for my application of a ranch rifle that I will want to make 200 yard varmint shots with, magnification is a huge plus. But are there any alternatives to a $1300 ACOG that can give you 4 or so power, plus an illuminated reticle? |

In the end, I might have to have both. Do an OKO or EOTech or other more affordable holo sight. Also find a wide angle, low/multipower adjustable rifle scope with illuminated reticle for long range stuff. Maybe just swap them out depending what I am doing that day and hope they retain zero. That's not asking too much. Is it? bwaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaa ha ha ha |
| Most will not like this, but I have a Leupold CQ/T 1x3. I do a lot of varmint hunting, mostly coyote calling and this optic works great. It may not be the choice for millitary, but man have I had a lot of fellow hunters really like this optic. There are not very many really good views to this optic on this site, but I will tell you that if you have a chance to try one, definatly take the chance. |
| Hello, I also am in the same boat. I just purchased a Colt MT6700 which is a 20" A3. I don't see me shooting very long distances like much over 300 yards, there is not many places to do this in S. Florida. I like the Eotech better than the Aimpoint. It just seems like for any close combat type work you see the rectal much better. Of all of the posts I have read on this site the Trijicon ACOG's get by far the most positive posts. Many say go with the TA-11 or the TA-31. You don't have to pay $1200 for these models. I also am trying to decide in between the TA-11, TA-31 type or the compact ACOG's. You can get the compact acog models for $589. So the TA-11 and TA-31 for $889 or the compact acog's for $589. Both at riflescopes. http://www.riflescopes.com/riflescopes/index.html They seem to have the best or right at the best prices around that I can find. |
| Errol and Markbo, please let me know which way you end up going on the scopes. Thanks Mike |

Guys, take a serious look at the IOR Valdada M2 4x illuminated or the 6x if you want a little more Excellent optics. I've got reviews of my compact ACOG and my IOR M2 at The Pennsylvania AR15 Shooters Site Optics, Sights and Mounts Reviews IOR: Compact ACOG 3x |

Quoted: How about a compact ACOG? Best of both worlds. 3x, flattop mount, use your carry handle as a backup iron. IOR Valdada M2 4x illuminated would be a nice one too. Either can be used on CQB, and give you some reach out capacity I've tried putting a compact ACOG into an Armalite carry handle mount and that's a no-go. The channel isn't the standard "stock" A2 carry handle width. If you've done this I'd like to know on which carry handle as I'd be willing to swap mine out in a heartbeat if this would work. |

errol, Markbo, You might try to find a used but not abused Trijicon Ta01 4X32 with the red line. It seems to be the least popular right now because of the lack of BAC but it is an outstanding scope. It should be around 500-600$. Its set up for the 20" barrel also. I have a TA44-2 for sale in the EE but it doesnt have the magnification you might want for varmit and coyote shooting. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=23&t=164504 Edited to ad a link to a Tao1 that just came up for sale in the EE for 550.00. I have nothing to do with this ad. I just thought it was ironic that it was posted today. |
