Just received my Aimpoint package from ArmyInf yesterday. It consists of an Aimpoint ML2, ARMS #38EX sleeve, and ARMS #22M68 mount. Put everything on my 16" A3 Bushy as soon as I got the package open.

I was messing around in the house with it a bit. I mounted the site as far forward as possible and it seems to allow for quick target acquisition. Didn't seem to change the balance of the rifle at all.

I was surprised by a couple things after I started playing around with it. The first thing I noticed was that the first 2 or 3 brightness settings on the Aimpoint do nothing. I even went into a darkened closet and could barely make out the dot. I was surprised at where the front site tower is positioned in the scope. I was under the impression it would be located in the lower third of the scope. The top of the front site is about centered in my setup.

A few questions. Is there a special tool to attatch the #38 sleeve? I don't have a screwdriver with a blade anywhere close to being thick enough to fill the gap in the nuts that came on the sleeve. What's the screw in the front of the sleeve for? What are the threaded holes between the rails for? This one may be stupid, but does it matter which side the throw lever on the #22M68 sits?

I'm really anxious to get to the range this weekend to sight this thing in and use it. I got the taller front site post. I'm gonna use the Santos improved battle sight method. Should I put the red dot on top of the front site post after I sight in using the flip up rear sight and the front site post?

the first 2 or 3 brightness settings on the Aimpoint do nothing

Ya might want to replace the battery, perhaps it's been stored too long, in dark closet ya should be able to see the first 2 setting though they are weak... IIRC, the first 2 are the only ones low enough to use w/ a NV scope with.

The top of the front site is about centered in my setup

This is exactly the way your ML2 w/ #22M68 and #38 EX should set, perfect "co-witness".

There is a special screw driver for then, contact ARMS, IIRC, screw in front is for attachment of a brush-guard or similar device, believe holes are for attachment of additional ARMS products, ie, mounting Spacer for #22M68 without the base, (directly to #38EX) or something like that, I like my throw lever on the left as I sighting down rifle, (on the left the lever points back toward me, on the right lever points forward and will in the brush and jungle become an entanglement point for vines twigs and what-not, something ya don't need), YMMV

After zeroing the irons, this should get your ML2 close enough to be on the paper at 50 yards.

Good Luck,
Mike

BTT, for those more familiar w/ screw holes and screw at front of #38EX....

There is no special tool for the nut on the #38 or SIR's, they only need a coin to tighten.
Put a drop of lock tight on the threads.

I forgot to mention that the optic model you have does not need new batteries. The first two settings are for night vision and require virtualy nothing you can see with the naked eye, you can only use them with a monocular. The directions describe this.

He said he has the ML2, and if that is infact the model he got, it is not the model that works with NVDs.

I wonder about the same thing when i first received my Aimpoint, but the first two setting are very faint.  but in the dark of night, the first tow setting can be helpful.
