What I need: 1) 1" (or 30mm w/ inserts, but would prefer 1") 2) Quick Detach 3) as light as possible 4) mounting height such that when mounted on the flattop AR rail, the centerline is the same as the iron sights 5) compatible with the rail on a RIS/RAS Suggetions? Anyone know which ARMS rings fit this bill? #22 rings w/ #37 inserts, but low, medium, or high? Anything else I've not considered? Will I get locked? lets wait & see |

Quoted: Is there a reason that you can't use a one-piece mount, such as the excellent Armalite mount? It meets all of your criteria... -Troy I would think about it, but I think that doesn't meet my weight requirements. I'm trying to mount a scout scope on the RIS of my carbine, so the extra weight may come into play. |

Quoted: FWIW, the AR is a very poor platform for the scout-scope concept... -Troy Just out of curiosity, why? My uncle mounted one on an Armalite carbine. Cooper called it the "poodle shooter scout". I don't really see any difference in this and placing the aimpoint or some other cheater out on the handguards. |

The main reasons are because you have to mount the sight so high on an AR (because there's no drop in the stock), and because it's hard to get the scope far enough forward to work. And it only works on rifles with no front sight. The height is a problem because it gets banged around so much when mounted forward like that. -Troy |

From holding it in place, it seems to work OK. And it only works on rifles with no front sight. GG&G flip-up on the gun now. The height is a problem because it gets banged around so much when mounted forward like that. That is a consideration, but I think its a worthy excercise. If it doesn't work out, I guess I'll have to go with some other type of cheater. Of course, in the meantime, I'll just keep shooting my DSA [;)] |
